I wonder how the pilot episode of his show was received in the halls of video game television power?

he should get enough o have a comfortable life and not need to worry about money. he shouldn't be a millionaire or anything but a comfortable life would be adequate.

You can tell how much Yahztee has done for The Escapist by using the little google search at the right of some browsers. It has that autofill thing for the most popular google searches. As soon as you put in 'Z' Zero Punctuation is 7th on the list. Now out of all the things to search for beginning with Z on Google, I'd say thats rather an impressive amount of traffic.

In addition to the escapist, he writes the back page column for PC gamer, and does other small contributions to various magazines and websites. According to his website www.fullyramblomatic.com So I'd say he's doing pretty well.

Based on the number of hits he brings to The Escapist, I'd say he better be making a good amount of money. However, his job is to make a ~5 minute video once a week (and, I suppose you could include the gaming necessary to "research" for the video). That doesn't sound like he puts in a 40+ hour day.
I think we'd all be pretty impressed if he could do that.

OT, though, I feel sorry for the guy - one a week does sound like a lot of pressure, and I don't really know how he copes with it.

Though I don't think he gets paid, or deserves, a fortune.
My grandpa used to have to work 40-hour days. And he had to walk uphill both ways to work, through blistering snow and raging tornadoes, while crazy reds shot at him from the hills. And all he had was some boxer shorts and a pocket knife.

Or at least that's what he told me.
OK fine, I feel sorry for him too, but I'd much rather have hard manual labour (although maybe not to that extent) than a hell of a lot of psychological stress and DEADLINES DEADLINES DEADLINES.

And what are crazy reds...?

And I just meant there are only 24 hours in a day, so it would be pretty impressive. But if you're telling me your grandpa worked 40-hour shifts, then that's fine, and sorry for trying to be a smartarse :)
Reds, you know, like Indians. Or Native Americans to be more correct.

I always thought reds meant Communists, but apparently not....

You're right. The reds are communists. This is the WWII-Cold War era that we're talking about. Reds are communists. Indians are injuns.

And Obtusifolius, it appears you, like I often do, have missed the sarcasm. The whole thing was sarcastic. I was simply expanding on the "40-hour day" joke by adding in the classic "trekkin' barefoot in ten feet o' snow uphill both ways" stereotype you get from the older generations. I also took the liberty of adding in the tornadoes and communists for good measure, since "and he liked it!" wouldn't have fit the context of the discussion.

But asking him for an answer takes the fun out of it. :(

Yahtzee probably puts a good amount of work into his job. The time to play through the game some, the script writing, the animations, and not to mention the speaking part.

Given that he takes time each week to produce a very well done and amusing review of the latest game to fall victim to him I'd say a modest wage. The fact that he does very well done and modest reviews of games along with the entertainment value automatically has given him internet celebrity status. Out of that there's bound to be more crossovers and projects to further spread his fame and talent. Sooo... let's just see how it grows. The fact that after a couple of years he still has the wit and desert-dry humour to keep us all amused says something doesn't it? Patience, people! Patience!

Why does Yahtzee deserve money? All he does is make 5 minute "snark attacks" once a week. You can easily find that in spades on youtube. Just because he is actually funny and posts on The Escapist now doesn't somehow make him better or more deserving of money than the rest of the internet.

C'mon man it's really impolite to discuss how much a guy makes.
This is the internet, where it seems everyone is free to throw etiquette out the window. I will too. ;D

EDIT: The Esscapist does pay for his games doesn't it? Maybe that is his salary.
Wikipedia said:
The series began after Croshaw created two video reviews, one for The Darkness demonstration version for the PlayStation 3 and the other for Fable: The Lost Chapters for the PC and uploaded them on YouTube to wide acclaim. Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka, owner of comedy website Something Awful, offered Croshaw the opportunity to produce Zero Punctuation for his website, which Croshaw turned down because the amount of money offered was insufficient. After this, The Escapist contacted Croshaw, and offered him a contract.
That would imply that he's not doing it for just the games.

He writes and animates those videos. By himself.
