There's always room for more guns. After all, without more guns, how can you get MOAR DAKKA?!

Right.
I would pick it up using something that wouldn't get my finger prints on it. take it home.
Check it for recent use. If it was recently used i would call the police and get them to take it in.
If not i would dismantle it and study how it worked spending a while learning about how to improve the mechanisms using my new found knowledge of firearm mechanics. I would then create my own super fire arm, probably something along the lines of a grenade, inscendiary or shotgun pistol.

Yeah thats probably what i'd do in a nutshell =)

Pick it up with an opaque plastic bag, and hold the bag out in front of me to take it to the police station. I'm not sure if you're in a country where guns are legal or not, but in the case they are not, the cops probably want the prints. Opaque to y'know, not scare anyone.

I live in Norway, where you can't normally purchase a handgun, so it would be a really, really rare chance to get my hands on a handgun.

I'd take it home, take out the bullets, and most likely store in on the attic or something.

Take it out a few times a year and look at it, and maybe fire a round or two at some remote location.
Thought I might have to get a reloader, since I can't legally buy ammo for it.

Check to make sure I have room in my inventory. It could be worth a couple of caps at least.
Hehe, nice one.
Woo! Fellow Norwegian! :D

You could join a shooting club though. I'm considering it because it competitive shooting seems genuinely fun, and after what I think is six months, you get a permit to buy a handgun/shotgun, and if you pass the hunter-test, you can purchase a rifle and go hunting. Which I've done without a permit :3

I'd take the gun, you never know when you're going to need a gun that isn't registered under your name

well why, with blastier / killa ammo of course!

all the people that state they would keep the gun, because an unregistered gun could be usefull obviously have no clue how modern investigation work. short version: you will get fucked up good. not only are most people probably not able to correctly and safely operate the gun, even if it is used with effect in a perfectly reasonable way, you are still facing a great chance for serious prison time.

Wear gloves, check for serial number.
Report to police; I have little use for a discarded firearm (they are usually discarded for a reason).

i only wouldn't take it for myself due to the likelihood that it's registered and, well, i wouldn't like that to follow me. and i dont have a use for a gun now anyways. i do wanna get a concealed weapons permit in the future!

Why would you do anything other than call the police and let them take care of it? I might walk by it so I don't get in trouble, but in the list of choices you've given, calling the police seems the best option to me.

I really hate guns, there is just no good reason for someone to have one.
Unless live in area with alot dangerous wildlife.
I'll give you that. In the situations where it isn't viable to change location.

I accept your apology for a start.
But my stance on subject remains that it is needlessly dangerous both to yourself and those around you for anyone to own and/or use a firearm.
It is also needlessly dangerous for anyone and yourself if you own a car!
More people die by car accidents then by gun accidents, so this is just a bogus statement that has nothing to do with the reason to actually own either a car or a gun...
For the owner, guns can serve a purpose just as much as cars do. It might not be as "useful" as a car, but at least it´s less damaging to the economy and doesn´t pollute the air...much XD
So please, don´t offend gun owners with your "opinion", and phrase it differently. It is your opinion, fine, but don´t rub it into anyones face like a vegetarian going "EATING MEAT IS EVIL!"...
There's a pretty critical difference in that guns are designed to kill things and do nothing else, and there's no point in owning one if your not prepared to use one, and people who take killing that lightly are the only people I look down on. If that offends you......well just shoot me.

This. Only I don't have enough. Not YET.

Please stick to the subject at hand, there is no need for this to turn into a debate.
I did...:/ opinions different from yours aren't automatically irrelevant. Should go without saying but whatever.
It just seems like you could have said "There is no good reason for ME to have one" instead of saying that people that own guns have no reason to. The way you worded it could easily be taken as an insult to any gun owner.

I wasn't trying to demean your opinion, so I apologize for any offence taken.
I accept your apology for a start.

See, now you're debating (more like preaching). The thread subject is about what we would do in the situation, not the ethics of firearms. You are trolling and you don't even know it.
What we would do in this situation is unavoidable influenced by the ethics of firearms, so it's intellectuality dishonest to talk about one wile ignoring the other.

I'm a martial artist so preaching about self defense is kind of second nature to me, I'm not making you read it.

If you live in the wild,If you work at a jail, If your home land is at war and could be invaded, if your a cop ex
The live in the wild thing I can give you if it's not viable to simply move to a different area. However the other's are situations that would not be improved by the addition of more firearms. In the second and fourth one they'd possibly make things worse.
