I wouldn't take it seriously, and IF i ended up testing it (to find out it works), i'd destroy it immediately afterwards.

Forum win. (I've always wondered what doodling on the death note results in)

idunno... i know i´m a fairly normal guy that fears death, but i would keep it untill something came up, thinking "i might never need it".

but the first momment i got drunk i would probably kill halve the people i know (for those are the ones that had made my life misserable)

then, after realising what i have done, i would start killing bad guys to atone from my sins

i would desend in a spiral of hate and corruption untill i decided to put my oun name in the book.

I'm not familiar with the anime and therefore the rules of such books, but is it possible to wipe out entire groups of people? I'm not talking races here, I mean like, for example, rapists.

Kill everyone I dislike, and use it to gain a ton of money. Probably get bored being ultra rich after a while, so I'd try and create a new world. Of course I'd use trusted friends to be the figurehead of my power, so nobody knows my true identity. Something like that, anyways.

The user of a deathnote cannot go to heaven, no matter who they kill. Since this would confirm the existence of an afterlife, there'd be no fucking way I'd damn my soul like that! Not worth it.

Upon seeing rule: "If the Death Note is burned or destroyed, all who have touched it will die." I'd probably hesitate destroying it. Then I would hide it, until Ryuk showed up to taunt me. At which point I start believing it might be real. We'd eat some apples, and discuss the universe. Maybe Ryuk would find me interesting enough not to kill me.

I cannot justify murder. And purging the sinful, please... anyone who thinks you should eliminate those who have sin has no idea what the concept of sin means. Salvation comes from the freedom to forgive and choose to stop sinning, not oppression to acquire safety. To add the words of another man in red:

"People who sin say this: They had to, to survive. People who sin say this: It's too late now to stop. The shadow called sin dogs them steadily from behind, silently, without a word. Remorse and agony are repeated, only to end up at despair in the end. But the sinners just don't know that if they only turn around there's a light there, a light that shines on them ever so warmly, a light that will never fade."

Tough call. I could use the book to kill off terrorists and dictators, but I'm a bit afraid I would slowly start killing more and more people until it got way out of hand. Probably safer to just hide it indefinitely - although that would leave the risk that someone suddenly find it centuries from now.

Quite the oposite actually. In the mangas, Ryuk tells Light that a user of the Death Note can "neither go to heaven nor hell". Light then says that just means there is no heaven or hell, and Ryuk confirms that. When Light is killed at the end it says that every human disappear into nothingness when they die - no matter whether or not they've used a Death Note.

Well, I'm trying to become a successful actor. Now, this is a very, very competitive career full of people who LOVE giving their autographs... See where I'm going with this?

I'd go power mad. Seriously, I would. Wipe out people who were creating problems in the world and move on from there.

I want to say that I'd be a bit more controlled in my wrath, but that doesn't make it ANY better.

I don't know. I would be very tempted to use it, but a large part of me would ask: why do I have the right?
I would be tempted to use it on politicians, because they're all evil, and people who are extremely stupid. That last part probably sounds horrible, but many of these individuals are blights on society in every way, and deserve a painless death a hundred times over.
However, not only would I ask myself: what gives me the right? I would also be horrified that I might be 'corrupted' by the power. That last part would likely give me pause, and I would probably keep it for a time when using it seemed more appropriate.

I'd test it, and if it works I'd keep it around just in case, not destroy it as one of the poll options suggest.

As stated in a previous thread I would wait, a Shenegami has to appear eventualy (it's a rule), if it doesn't after 84 days (I think thats the time, but I'm not sure) I would pay it no bother.

If one does arrive, as stated in a previous thread, I would realize that I am in the Death Note universe and find Wammy's house to develop my already considerable powers of detection.

I'd find the names and pictures of some of the worst mass-murderers, terrorists, and dictators still alive and write their names down, and then promptly burn the book. Better to stay as Light was at the very, very beginning, than dissolve into a crazed fanatic bent on becoming the twisted god of the new world.
