Alex Mercer...best superhero ever conceived. Lifting tanks with his bare hands and tentacle-ing helicopters is badass. Plus, his version of New York is over-run by zombies. Also, he's kind of in a grey area morally...no over the top good guy antics.

You know who would play a good Mercer in a movie? Hayden Christensen. Think about, watch Jumper, it gives me the same vibe. I think it would work perfectly.

If semantics are the issue, then yes, it's an eloquent counterpoint. But if I took away the Christian analogy, and applied Superman to a different culture, say old Norse or Hindu, he would still evoke the symbolism of divine intervention. Heck, Marvel even dropped subtlety and made Thor into a superhero. Superman, Wonderwoman and Batman are all referred to as the new "gods" of our age.

Oh indeed, I was just offering an interpretation rather than the space-jesus everyone seems to think he is. I think it's more of a line wide thing than just Superman, all DC heroes are these high powered god figures (even Batman, with his crazy preparedness). It's not necessarily a bad thing, it makes for epic (in the true sense of the word, not the internet interpretation) storytelling. But I agree for more personal and character based story telling marvel characters like the Hulk are better.

Is The Wall a superhero? 'cause I love me some Suicide Squad and Dr Amanda Waller is a great character, she's like a bureaucratic Batman. One day she will bring down the Bat to save us all.

Iron Man isn't a Super Hero. He's a vigilante who joined The Avengers. He has no powers.
Same goes with Batman. Excepting the Avengers thing.

Superman isn't a Super Hero. He's god. The only thing he can't do is anything he hasn't tried yet.

Wolverine isn't a Super Hero. He's a mutant, and an X-man. What he does doesn't follow the archetype of how super hero's function.

Polls for these are terrible, it's always too limiting.


As far as the people who do follow the archetype? Captain America.....Or Thor.

You do realise your contradicting yourself by saying Superman isn't a superhero but a God and that Thor isn't a God but a superhero?

Also technically Captain America is a mutant by definition, the only difference being his mutation was injected into him while Wolverines was born with his mutation.

EDIT: My bad I didn't know they called Cpt. America is considered a Mutates and not a Mutant

For me it's always Superman and he'll always look uncannily like Christopher Reeve. It was his films that got me into comic books and Superman is still on my pull list decades later. I've always loved the mythical elements of Superman and I think that's why I love mythology generally.

Green Lantern's ring is the coolest, most inventive superpower out there (when it's not doing ludicrous shit at the behest of a crap writer, anyway) and I dig the emotional spectrum stuff with all of the different Corps.

I'm going to say Green Lantern (Hal Jordon, for both the camp Silver age run and the modern on) for this, I get the biggest goosepumps when he's fighting Parallax and Nekron.

I've always quite like Captain America.

Oh and Batman's super power is money.

I would have to say Lobo from DC. He's not yout typical hero, but he sure kicks ass. He has killed Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, Robin, given Superman a beatdown, broke Batman's leg, stolen The Mask and then destroyed an entire galaxy, died and gone to both heaven and hell and been banned from both.

Deadpool. Just, Deadpool. He is the most brilliant anti-hero ever.

If I have to pick a second, then it's a tie between Dr. McNinja and Iron Man (I choose to exclude civil war from canon because of how poorly they write Iron Man in it.)

the good doctor and Deadpool are in there because of their badass quips and their brilliant fights, Iron Man because his only power is that he's a genius who doesn't solve problems through brute force.

Batman's okay, but he's a little... off for my liking
