I can throw a decent punch but if I ever got in a fight dare say I'd go for the ol dodge, headlock, beat the shit out of their face tactic.

Hitting pepole with a bat-fu

best one EVER...

Shooting pepole in the face-fu is also quite a nice one to learn

I fight like a girl. I don't mean to say I'm bad at it, just that I fight the way your average girl does.

Standard is punching, uppercuts, hooks, just regular fighting, or what some people call Brutal Style

Martial-Arts: jiu-jitsu, king-fu all that asian junk

Wrestling: Elbow drops, pile drivers, sling shot, can-openers

Im Standard style

I hate these threads. Most of the people that claim to practice a martial art are probably talking bollocks, and the people that say "Grab the nearest weapon" have blatantly never been in a fight.

This is an internet forum, so you could claim to be as good as friggin Bruce Lee.

Anybody that has been in a proper fight knows that it's finished in no more than 5 moves.

Sure, I could be talking shit here, but I just hate seeing pretentious idiots blow themselves up to appear something they are not.

EDIT: I practice Shotokan and Freestyle Karate.

That is me :D
I don't know how to do the spoiler thing ¬.¬
First off - I <3 your kit. Can't believe you're not stuck with the oh so boring (and difficult to keep clean) white gi.

Secondly - I've done 6? 7? years of Shotokan karate (Woohoo!) about a year of wadoryu style (not so cool, but there's no Shotokan club at uni) and a year of jitsu. Which I love. Oh yeah, and three months of playing taekwondo with the brown belts and up, during the holidays.

When I write it out like that, that's actually scary.

Thirdly - The only fights I've been in are competition fights. I have no idea how I'd do in real life. The jitsu fights, I got a shiny gold medal, and the karate ones, not so much, though I hold my own.

I have no idea what I'd do in real life, though it'd definitely be martial arts themed. The ever efficient knee to the groin would probably figure quite highly.... and the wonderful pressure point just below the ear.

Doc - what's Freestyle Karate? Is that just the sparring?

And, agree about the weapon thing - you don't pick up a weapon you don't know exactly how to use, or they'll take it off you and use it on you instead. Not cool.

I usually rely upon brute force and being able to withstand more punishment than the other guy although I have been trained in a few martial arts so I could incorperate elements of those into a fight.

My first rule of fighting is to not get in a fight. If I am friendly and outgoing enough, I do not have to fight. However, if that fails, then I have martial arts to back it up. I am a pretty big guy, at 6'3" and 300lbs., so that comes in handy too. I am not well trained in any specific style of martial arts, but I have learned bits and pieces of things over the years. Right now I am taking a karate class to satisfy a gym credit requirement for my degree, but I don't really like the style. It uses too much leg work, and my legs are relatively short for me being so tall.

Anything goes so long as it gets the job done. Never EVER Underestimate the joy of gouging at an opponents eyes.

Typically my fighting style consists mostly of inflicting as much pain as possible in order to keep my opponent disoriented. A tazer or can of mace works fine, but a quick jab to the nose or knee to the groin works just as well. Than while they're incapacitated I grab a chair or equally large and heavy object before proceeding to bash in their kneecaps so they can't chase me/get away from me. After they are immobile I proceed to keep using the mace and or tazer until the can runs empty or my batteries die.

Then I either call the cops or vacate the scene, depending on who started the fight and whether or not my opponent is still alive.

I've a little bit of Ju-Jistsu and boxing training, along with some armed combat stuff. Plus my dad showed be every bar-room brawling trick he could think of when he thought is was old and sensible enough to go drinking on my own.
I don't think anything is off-limits when it's selfdefence.

i have a restraint style of attack. i catch the opponents and restrict their movements. if i'm attacking rather then defending, then i try to strangle as well.

i'm not good at fighting though, because i lack strength somewhat.

I don't have brute strength so I put my wright on one part of their body and can pull off a German Suplex on someone a little bigger than me.

Thanks man!

Finally, someone on this thread that actually chooses to acknowledge what I've said and agrees :3

There are so many bullshitters posting here it's unbelievable... "yeh man id jst pil3dr1ve his faic"... Seriously? if you don't know what you're talking about, then stfu.

I don't mind people imagining what they'd do, but keep it real and keep it reasonable.

My plan? If someone is mugging me at knifepoint, give them my wallet. How often do I carry anymore than £20? Not often. And I'd happily give up £20 to not get stabbed.

EDIT: @Kazuki, the freestyle aspect is mainly the sparring - incorporating what you've learned and some good ideas of your own.
Ah, that's what I figured, ta. I'd always just assumed that was part of the Shotokan bit, though I suppose it's not really related to a style, so.... yeah. The best part of karate, that :D

TBH, the only time I'm gonna get mugged in Bath would be late at night, and the only times I'm be out late at night I'll be in a group, (late nights are club nights, and we pretty much always stick in our house groups so we can find our way home) so it's really all a moot point.

And yeah, they always make a big point of that, particularly in jitsu (more defensive than karate) - unless you'll die / get seriously injured / get raped if you don't fight back, just give up what they want, and leave.

Though, on a more entertaining note, someone broke into the house of one of the jitsu second dans, he went downstairs, took the guy down and held him in an arm lock until the police arrived. That one's told at pretty much every large gathering of jitsuka I've ever been to - it's used as an example for the newbies, bless them, of just how cool jitsu is.

Boxing. Taking a full on uppercut from a heavyweight boxer without gloves - or probably with - would break your jaw, and his hand.

I don't like getting into fights, and it doesn't happen often. However, if it becomes necessary to do so, this [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheCombatPragmatist] about covers it.

I'm big and strong so I generally outweigh or outmuscle 80% of the people I've fought. My rule of thumb is to test how strong they are physically. If they're as strong or equal I'll stand up and punch on. If they're weaker I'll take them to the ground where my extra weight and strength will give me the advantage. A 55 kilo weakling can knock you out if they get lucky with a punch so I'd rather keep it located on the floor we're it's not as much of a threat. Style wise, I've done boxing so my punching technique comes from that but boxing defence is stupid in a streetfight so I tend to go with the good from boxing and just do what feels natural otherwise.

I'm too much of a nice guy to fight dirty and the reality is despite my strength and skill in the martial arts I don't like hurting people so I can be pretty counter productive in the way I fight ie not knocking someone out when I can and letting them hit me in the torso.
