Though my reckoning is if someone declared on the UK or its allies and it escalates so far as to kill thousands of civilians then chances are the government would simply launch the nukes and kill a couple million more of them in a quest to show we?re serious.
If both countries have nukes, in theory, they may still have an all-out conventional war.
Quite possibly yes but as Mr Yhatzee once said there's little point in having regular soldiers who get beaten up by Super Soldiers and Super Soldier programmes are flawed because nukes are so much more effective.

I think that if it ever got to the point where a full scale invasion of the UK or any other major country occurred then chances are someone would get twitchy, fire off one and then everyone else would join in on it.

Assuming that doesn't occur i would maintain my choice to serve out my position within the Air Force Engineering Corp or MOD Research.

My mate Sam however, whose main skill is as a keen drummer, will likely be enlisted to play songs for the troops while they fight their way across the barren desert/tundra/jungle/urban area.

I live in Iceland. We don't HAVE an army, so I guess that means I default to "No".

Besides, no war here would take thousands of lives, they'd just bring warships into the harbors and we'd go all white flag.
Nice one! World would be a much better places with more Icelands

(Memo to self
Need to visit island and taking pictures of the habors, just in case)

Okay, back on topic.

First thought:
Voiceover: "Your country is at war, what are you going to do?"
Me: "Oh no, not again."

Second thought:
Voiceover: "Your country is at war, what are you going to do?"
Me: "Thank god, I'm not even allowed to serve my country bearing arms. Compulsory community service anyone?"

it would honestly depend on alot of things.

i'm assuming fighting on the homefront..

it would depend on the "force" that the opposing enemy is showing, if they have literally millions coming at us in swarms..

FUCK THAT. defecting to canada like a boss.

but if it's somewhat like a zombie thing, then i'm holin up with my loved ones and fighting to the last fucking bit, no zombie is gonna take me down without getting their mutilated junk tossed, i'd have a pipe bomb strapped to my chest as a last second hurrah

Someone decided to invade Canada? Well I won't enlist because physical defects pretty much stop me from being useful in a standard military unit (strenuous physical activity can cause me to become paralyzed for about 24hours...)but I'm more than likely going to fight as part of a civilian guerilla unit.

No, I would not enlist.

Norway is a small country, with a population of about 4.8million.
We're not going to be able to stand against an enemy for very long.

Unless it's a small nation that is attacking us, or we can rely on the help of NATO.
Then I would enlist in a heartbeat.

If not, then I'd join La Resistance and fight the enemy from the shadows.

Do you enlist immediately or not? The causes are not clear but the war has already taken thousands of civilian lives on your side of the border. Your family/friends have enlisted and everywhere you go you see people you know saying their goodbyes before basic training.
Wait, what? Don't we get some kind of context? Because for America, this already happened, at least the 'war being declared, thousands of civilian deaths' parts.

Do you have doubts and wait? Do you want to stay away from the fighting altogether? Or do you sign up right now?
Gah! Details, man, details! Is this World War III, or just another one-sided third world beatdown?

Wait, why are you trying to hide this? I'm genuinely curious. I don't think there's an ulterior motive, but it's just kind of baffling.

Well I'm enlisting for the British RAF, so there's no real question for me. But if I wasn't going to and I had a day office job, then yeah, I probably would because I'm into the queen and country and paying my debt to my country and stuff

No details. Let's just say there is either a voluntary media censorship on the events of the war or nobody knows what is going on except what's on the top level. Just a thread about who would sign up without hesitation... Perhaps going back to an age when we didn't know everything immediately via the web. Point is, everything/everyone is appealing to your sense of nationalism when they themselves don't know what you're in for.

I'm not trying to hide it, it just wasn't very relevant to the main points I wanted to be read.

I'm from America and we are fighting wars now... Also, if we were to be invaded by another country, there is a very strong chance that there will be a draft so it may not matter if I want to enlist or not.

I would strongly consider enlisting if war hits home base.

I think I'll wait and see how the threat develops and if it's worth fighting.
No point in throwing my life away on account of vagaries.

If it's on my home turf i would probably enlist to protect but not to the frontlines and take orders from some idiot that tells me to do things I dont want to! I wouldent enlist to do like the US that defend there homes on other nations soils(wich doesent really make sence to be honest)!

Of course im from Sweden where we only have a professional these days and also the last time we were at war(ourselfs as a country and not supplying with troops like Afganistan) was about 200 years ago!

If war comes to these shores, then I have a job to do. It's no longer about moral ambiguity, it's fight as an organised team or die. Humans have been fighting for so many years now, if an invader were to attack, I'd be obliged to fight alongside my countrymen.
