Progressive rock band style, so I guess singing with just layer upon layer upon layer of reverb put on the vocals.

I went with singing. But more specifically I like the higher voiced singers, like those of Rush and to a lesser extent Dream Theater (that guy can hit some notes). I don't, as a general rule, like the low singers.

I like really weird vocalists that set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd, like Mike Patton, Wes Borland in Big Dumb Face, Dick Valentine of Electric Six, SLIPPERY JIM of Crotchduster! Dean Bowman, jazz vocalist from SHT. The masked Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt, especially in that song 'Dracula Mountain'. I like lower vocals. I grew up with a little sister, so anything above a certain frequency immediately irritates me.

Somewhat varied, I suppose it all depends on my mood~♪

where's whispering?

the whispered lyrics in most songs from Múm's 'Finally We Are No One' and 'Summer Make Good' days are definately my favourite...

Styles I love:

But conversely, I can't stand some of the other branches of similar genres. There are a lot of Melo Death bands I can't stand because of their vocalists. Anything black metal-ish I find incredibly off-putting. Their growls grate across my nerves. I'm very picky over what I consider a good scream ;]

I don't like growling vocals. I however can appreciate their occasional use in a song, when used to create a certain desired effect or mood, most usually a sense a darkness/evilness or anger. The problem arises when the the entire song is sung in growling vocals, and when you really want to express darkness, anger or evilness, you carn't. That, and growling to my ears does not sound very nice, so i can only really take it in small doses. Being a metal fan, my dislike for growling vocals is rather problematic.

I like.. normal-style singing, a bit of screaming here and there to create a suitable effect, perhaps a bit of operatic style in there as well. Rather like what Bruce Dickinson does-

Singing, although I also enjoy Rise Against-style sing-screaming.

That whole screech-growling death metal bullshit just annoys me.
There is no talent involved. You don't even have to say anything that sounds like anything. Just make angry throaty sounds.
I don't get how anyone could enjoy that nonsense.
But hey, to each their own, I guess.

Some Dallas Toler Wade type growls, Devin Townsend type shrieking and Zak Stevens type singing.
Oh, and some Hansi Kürsch in there too.

I love all kinds of metal, black, death, grindcore, etc. But still, I prefer actual singing. Kamelot's and Muse's vocalists (Roy Khan and Matthew Bellamy) are amongst my preferred singers, along with many Gothic/symphonic metal bands.

Hard, both for singing and listening to. It just seems to fit perfectly inbetween normal singing and death metal growling and screaming.

I like singing for the most part, but shouting and screaming songs are good as well.

I guess i would have to go with singing, preferably female sinegrs like within temptaion and stuff like that.
Though i like harder singing/screaming/yelling etc. as well, and growling, as long as it's still understandable.
And i've got a thing for rap as well, as long as it has more depth than guns tits and bling, the massive amount of text in rap compared to most otehr genres makes it an excellent way to rap/sing about stuff that can't be boiled down to a few lines and a chorus.

So i guess it's all of them, instrumental is cool as well, though i dislike techno.

Oh can i use my vote for "i hate auto-tuned voices" that metallic (not used in actual metal, but mostly in Pop) voice you get when you put some tard who can't sing but looks good in a music video in front of a mic.
