It's definitely pronounced "meem". It's an actual word, not just some internet lingo.

Meme.

Meem

Yeah I got a lot of those when I was 5. Sort of stuck with me, that and 'i before e except after c.'

EDIT: Also, on a related note, 'Trope' is preonounced 'tro-puh.' Not 'trop-ee'. I had a university level Creative Writing tutor pronounce it 'trop-ee' for nearly three weeks before I finally brought in both an English and a French dictionary to show him that it is not prnounced with a long e on the end. Just because it is French does not mean you have to try and say it 'Frenchly.' I suspect even the French pronounce it 'meem' because there are no accents in it.

'mehm' as if the first e has a hat on it. Don't ask me why I say it, it just sounds right.

Uh, it's "meem". It isn't supposed to be pronounced any other way, it may just sound different from people with various accents.

I used to say "meh-meh". But nowadays I say "meem" because it's what's correct. Ain't that a story to tell the grandchildren?

Before I knew how to pronounce it correctly, the word 'meme' was always a blank in my head. I googled it and found that it was pronounced ''meem''.

Sometimes, it would happen that I just had to use the word in conversation. If that happened, I blurted out every possible option in rapid succession. Has anyone else ever done this?

I've always pronounced it mehm, not sure why.
Because that's the correct French pronunciation, maybe. Well, if it had an accent.
But in French it's a different word, "Même", meaning "Same" like in the phrase "C'est la même chose/It's the same thing" or "Even" like in the phrase "Même si.../Even if...".

Even then, I would never pronounce the english word "meme" any other way than "meem".
I can see a link, between meme and same. They're probably unrelated though.

If I ever heard someone pronounce it "may-may", I would feel obligated to slap them in the face. It's "Meem", as in cream/dream/team/seem, etc...

Meme is a word coined by Richard Dawkins in his book The Selfish Gene, and he created it because he needed a cultural analogy for genes. I used to pronounce it meh-meh, but then I read up on the word´s roots.

Since it was originally coined by Richard Dawkins as a relation to "gene" (to do with memory rather than genetics), the pronunciation is "meem", which is how I've always said it anyway.
