He get's a game and picks apart all the negative parts for comedic effect, but i guess it's a review, i mean if one day there was a game that avoids all the critisms by yahtzee i guess it'd be a perfect game (in yahtzee's eyes anyway)
He reviews games but it's funny, watch it either way. or watch it twice like i do.... once normally and once in an irish accent..........

It's definitely not a review.

He intentionally plays up the horrible aspects of the game for comedy.

Reviews generally look at both positive and negative aspects.
There are a lot of critics known for hating everything and only liking choice amazing things. Look at his review for Arkham Asylum, that has good and bad in it. Or Orange Box. Its comedy and review.

It's an entertainment review. He says what he likes and dislikes about a game, and plays up what he dislikes. If you tend to agree with him, use him as a reviewer. If you tend to disagree, you can watch it for the entertainment value. Or not if you don't find it entertaining. He's not "right" or "wrong", whether or not a game is "good" or "bad" or you like it or not is pure opinion. Find a reviewer that you tend to agree with and follow their reviews for game evaluations.

I look at Yahtzee as "anti-advertising" with comedy. When you see a commercial for a game, you get excited and might think the game is awesome. Watching Yahtzee's review of a game, you might think the game is trash.

Yahtzee is only a man, so I take his opinion of something with a little more than a grain of salt. He doesn't give his complete honest opinion of a game during a review because he gets money by NOT giving a full review. The only reason I give him the time of day when it comes to a game's worth is because I know that he's played the game (as much as you could really play in a week), and that he can point out most of the things one might not like about a game.

Reviewing and criticism aren't really the right words for it. Oh, and criticism isn't just "THIS IS WHY THIS IS BAD, GUIZ", so stop calling it that. :/

I've in the past read so many reviews that emphasised a huge amount of positives, make the game sound good, but then when I get it I found that they ommitted so much utter crud. And this was from professional game reviewers as well.

So I think Yahtzee is a reviewer in that respect, except instead of only emphasising the positive he does the opposite. Basing buying a game on one person's opinion is ridiculous, but in my opinion he usually does manage to spot most of the issues. I just like to then make my own damn mind up about whether the problems are game ruining or not.

In short: Yahtzee is comedic, but he does actually review a game. Nowhere is it written that a review has to be balanced.

its both. It's meant to be a review that is funny now (it used to be a comedy about reviews but Psychonausts changed that). Yahtzee has a bad rap of hating games but if you listen he actually likes about half of the games he reviews (maybe a third).

Plain and simple, its the ONLY reviewer I've ever seen that speaks pure truth.

Literally, I run towards any game he actually likes, I just bought Painkiller a few days back. He was absolutely right, Shurikens and Lightning!

Most reviewers just kiss too much ass of the developer when they review. Yahtzee tells it exactly how it is, with a bit of wit as well. Oh, and he's Australian, which gives him an awesome accent as well.

Well, it is a review like entertainment piece. But is bias to the extreme so you can never take his (Ben "Yahtzee" Crowshaw) reviews very seriously because he has to please an audience. It is because of his "Edgy" review style that is removed from the contemporary medium of review that he has an audience and therefore a paycheck. Still, my favourite critic.

Less a reviewer, more a comedian. He's just extremely biased as a reviewer.
how is he biased?
The incredible amount of Wii hate, for starters.
oh you mean that white thing that has a grand total of a dozen good games for it? nope wouldn't call him biased as he gives wii games credit when ever it's due.
A) There are a great deal more than a dozen good games for the console.
B) No he does not. He panders to the Nintendo-haters. The Conduit review is a good example of this: almost every single complaint could be fixed with a trip to the options menu. He neglected to mention this because he was too busy making bad Palin jokes.

More comedy. I like how he points out all the flaws in a game, though. Instead of regular reviewers basically just telling you their opinion, he gives you a more technical good and bad view rather than his personal opinion.

But mostly it's just comedy.

I wouldn't call Yahtzee a reviewer, more like an insult comic.

But I have been reading his Extra Punctuation and find them quite interesting.
Give or take 5 words (at most), this was exactly what I was going to post.

You've got it all wrong. It's a veiled commentary on life and all its oddities.

This.

Also, in Sonic Unleashed, I never found it hard to notice obstacles unless I was holding down the boost button. That's not even a "Oh, I didn't know." problem. Most of the other complaints were basically just newbie complaints.Nintendo's pretty easy to hate because a good portion of his fans are people who like trash-talking, rage, and not playing Nintendo.

Oh, and when you keep Yahtzee's words in mind when trying out one of those games, you will think the game sucks because you are going in with low expectations. You try to find the mistakes he mentioned and forget the fun parts.

Unnecessary insults... check.
Lack of punctuation... check.
Devine/MOD intervention... just a matter of time.

I've stuck with both. I've looked at Darkest of Days for a while with only two trailers to go off, and ended up not getting the demo because I'm not from the US. I wanted a second opinion into it, here came this Wednesday and I got it plus a bit of humor on the side, I think that's fairly good service.

He seems to inform about the game, i found what he said in his saints row 2 review to be true, once i had actually played it. Some of his reviews are nitpicky, but this is more for the sake of comedy, so i guess on that basis you could say that his reviews are comedy 1st, game review 2nd.
