5. Pinkie sense is suddenly scrutinized by science from twilight, but everything else wrong with MLP isn't? Oh yeah we totally know ponies can fly and perform magic. That's science right there.

Yes, the general consensus is that Twilight was being a very bad scientist in that episode, trying to prove herself right as opposed to trying to discover what's actually happening.



Also Fluttershy is a tree and Applejack is made of dark matter.

Is teh lulz an acceptable answer? These stuff happen when me and Liggly gets together. I kept pausing the show with genetic questions, we started discussing and one thing led to another. It's not like we spent hours on this when we should have been working on other things, we were bored and had an idea.

I don't know if you've seen this picture before but I feel like it belongs here. It's not genetics but physics. Someone calculated the physics behind the sonic rainbow at the cloudsdale competition [sub]and included tl;dr bits for us...less mathematically minded people[/sub]

I'm in two minds about it. On one hand I think it's awesome that Rainbow Dash is a physics defying badass and on the other I'm fairly sure she would have got pulped trying to pull that in the real world unless she has reinforced bones; as shes a Pegasus (and bird like) this is unlikely. Then again she can also hover upside down so take that physics!

My answer to that is, she's a pure pegasus, they're awesome. And extremely rare.

Well thats not hard to figure out. She is the personal pupil to the crowned ruler of Equistria. And anytime you know a ruling dictator on a first name basis and can walk up to them, un-molested by guards, and hug them. Your close enough to not have to worry about money.

You know this isn't the first time someone has done this right? Somebody did the exact same thing, in the exact same table style months ago. They even did an inverse version to show how it might work the other way, because we can't honestly say which genes are dominant and recessive.

OK, I would say that to stop an Alicorn being born naturally, Pegasus genes are going to have to be dominant over Unicorn genes (or vice versa). Secondly, Prince Blueblood is a very distant relative of Celestia, so I'm not sure what we can assume about his parents (perhaps Prince is simply an aristocratic name in Equestria?) Thirdly, as was mentioned here:

Also, I would say Fluttershy had recessive Earth Pony, not Unicorn genes, as her connection to animals and nature would make more sense that way. And maybe Pinkie Pie having recessive Unicorn genes would explain her ability to teleport anywhere she pleases?

Pinkie Pie is probably a Eu (Earth,Unicorn) more than Ep (Earth,Pegasus), good point. As for Fluttershy, that's true that she probably is a Pe (Pegasus,Earth), but it won't work as Earth is dominant, if there isn't a kind of... exception?

Perhaps there are recessive Earth Pony traits as well? If Earth Pony genes are always dominant, then surely pegasi and unicorns would become rarer and rarer over time through cross-breeding. Maybe there could be four main alleles: Earth Pony (dominant), Pegasus, Unicorn, and Earth Pony (recessive), in order to address that.

Yeah, we can't track the genome without the amount of X's. But we can presume he's a pure unicorn, which would require a lot of luck. So he's very rare, which is why he gets special treatment, and is so beautiful (don't see it myself, but oh well).

Perhaps one type of gene is dominant? Or Perhaps if an earth pony and unicorn had children some would be unicorms and the others would be earth ponies? Kind of like having genders, it's (usually) either or. Then again that raises the question if an liniage with all three in could have recessive characterisitcs. Kind of like both perants with brown hair having a blond child because one of their grand-perants was blonde.

Then again do we know poines are actually born? They could avoid the whole question and just make it "Magic bitches! I don't have to splain shit!"

The earth gene is dominant. And yes, with several children it would be a mix. As you can see there are 4 squares in each mating. This means it's 25% chance of each square. Of course, some of the squares give the same result, which is why certain races are more common.

Link please? I saw something which did it in a way that made certain types dominant only in certain matches and such, which is not scientific. This one doesn't need an inverse one because it's all based on specific, defined rules, in stead of pokémon rules. So this one is better.

But that would make the dominations too loosely defined and make them more case specific, which isn't really scientific. I realise there are some holes, which is why we're working on a pedigree chart where all three are equally dominant and you have 3 alleles in stead of 2. Wait for it.

As far as I'm aware Luna and Celestia are the only hybrids, functionally immortal and as Goddesses. I don't think their birth is natural or frequent. I think it's exclusive.

They are the only two outwardly obvious hybrids. Like the chart suggests, there are both dominant and recessive genes in the pool, and as I understand it, if you have say, Pegasus recessive genes paired with Earth Pony Dominant genes, you'll have the look of an Earth Pony who may have pegasus characteristics. *Gasp* That explains this little one's ability to cloud walk!
