I don't think Prince of Persia is a great example of the toughness of current gen games.

Try any Call of Duty on veteran and it will definitely give you a challenge.
I did the majority of CoD 5 on veteran on my 1st day with it. The only bits I struggled on being, The heart of the reich (only the bits were I had to destroy the 4 flak turrets) and downfall (I struggled on the 1st major battle in it and the final battle at the top of the reichstag. Suprisingly I found the huge hall with Nazi swastikas draped around it, easy).
Same I completed most of it quickly as well. I found the hall simple because most of the time I sniped them all.

It does pose a decent challenge to even hardened gamers though, you'll die a fair few times as well.
I died a few times but I didn't struggle to get past it on the second attempt (with the exception of those I stated).

On a side note, I loved CoD 5 for it seemed like real warfare were you had to take cover, popping out to shoot and then advancing. My only gripe with the game being the sheer amount of nade spamming by the enemy A.I (I found myself at points, being completely circled by grenades)

Why, in this day and age, does 'unchallanging' equal 'shitty'? Have gamers nowadays really become such masochists that if they don't die every 0.00001 of a second the game sucks? I just can't understand this logic, would someone be so kind as to explain it to me?

I throughly enjoyed PoP, like others have said before me, because it's FUN, I don't understand why everybody wants absolute realism in videogames these days either, if I wanted to take 5 minutes to walk up a flight of stairs, die from a single bullet, to watch shitty TV, or to take my annoying cousin bowling, I'd do just that, in real life, these things have no place in my video games as far as I'm concerned.

I shouldnt have too, when I fork out 70 euro for a game it should challenge me
Well it doesn't help when you choose one of the easiest current gen games at the moment. If you research a little bit and look at gameplay, a few reviews and comments you would know that.

It's like Fable 2. Don't buy it and expect a challenge because it's not that type of game.

I see what you mean but thats like me buying a film thats 10 minutes long
Gaming is the fastest growing media in the world, a little depth would go a long way
So you'd prefer an artificial extension of gameplay?

You're doin' something wrong if all you want from a game is to be chellanged. Go play Kaizo World, instead.

If your going to complain about things like difficulty maybe do some research before you buy a game. Otherwise you'll end up disappointed... a lot. I also don't think its fair to say that its overly easy because technically every time you get saved by Elika you've just died and I got saved by Elika quite a bit. The game simply has an autosave feature that enables any time you hit a platform.

I'm completely lost by the time I read this.

First you demand a challenging game BECAUSE you pay 70 euro's.
Then you compare game difficulty to gameplay length.
And then you demand depth, because gaming is supposedly the fastest growing medium (which it actually isn't, media are for transferring information, games are usually plain entertainment, although you might refer to it as a eufunction... I'm straying off here)?

Why not just say you're not too fond of the new PoP, and look up some info on games that might interest you more, buy those games and play them instead of ranting on about something everybody who has bothered reading at least one review, already knows (namely it being easy and pretty short)?

Ronseal, I recently got a loan of this off a friend ive beaten 1 boss altogether and im finding the fights very easy, is it just me or are games developers not bothering making stuff more, how do I put this, ROCK HARD.
I think the reason it's so easy is the developers didn't know which path you would take.

OPINION below
PoP is lame - it's only half a game. I played a third of the game (8 levels) which if you consider each stage must be completed twice is 2 thirds the fun. No challenge, I was just going through the motions and the dialogue was terrible.

I stopped and will trade this in. It's a joke of game design and shouldn't be considered an example of this generation.

PoP shouldn't even be associated with the other games.
I'd like to see how many times you had to be saved...just because you can't die does not make it a bad game, yes it may be easy, but then again - its a platformer...
I didn't have to be saved loads, you'll have to take my word for it.

My point was - I thought it was a bad game because I found it repetitive. I was doing each section twice to collect the orbs. Which was fine for a while but not a third of the game. It was draining and sad.

I didn't find the platforming fun because it's all so dictated. It was basically a rhythm platform game.
Here's a ring press Circle
Here's a plate press Triangle.
Here's a power switch - turn off the game.

I don't think that means what you think it means. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronseal]

Probably the word you're looking for is, "recently."

Ok back to the point, someone siad the games lenght should reflect price, I like this.....it makes sense you pay more for a 2 litre bottle of coke than a 500ml one so why not apply it to games

The Prince of Persia game needs an open mind to be appreciated. It's not that it's too easy, it's that since you don't really die, it seems easy. What do you prefer? A big, bad GAME OVER screen and redoing the last 5 minutes of gameplay, or a beautiful animation of Elika saving you and being back to the last safe place you were standing in in less than 5 seconds?
Yes, overall, it is easy, but people don't realize that the saving is just a very stylish checkpoint system.
You don't buy PoP for a challenge! You buy it for one of the best gaming experiences of 2008. You're meant to take in the story, the characters, the scenery. As I said in my review, you can rush through it in 7 hours, but if you do, you're missing the point completely.

That's just stupid as a comparison. The contents of the bottle are the same. Does that mean I should get, I dunno, Final Fantasy whatever-number-is-your-favourite instead of, say, Prince of Persia or Fatal Frame because it is longer?

I don't think Prince of Persia is a great example of good next gen games *FULL FUCKING STOP*

If you want to play a platforming action game with a good story, play the origanal Prince of Persia series. They're all incredible games, exceptially Sands of Time. My faviourite game series ever.

On its own PoP is a pretty meh game, compared to the old ones the new one is a huge piece of shit. Art style is all it has going for it, other than that it's just crap.

Then buy challenging games.

Physical or mental challenge is one possible aspect of gaming, it is not the only one.
