Every man should have 2 computers: One for normal things, the other for "questionable" materials :)

Haha Brilliant!

Now whenever Terms and Conditions pop-up I'm gonna feel a shudder go down my spine.

I wonder if in the comments though the torrents quickly get flagged as 'traps'.

Maybe that would work better than having buttloads of security... Companies should do stuff like this to scare people away from stealing there games.. Because the way they're doing it now, does not work.

Sucks to be those that fell for the trap LOL. This is why I never partake in downloading games...

:O

That site is amazing. Yet also slightly disturbing.

Someone had a screenshot taken of them while in video chat. And someone was reading a pornographic novel (english). I wonder if some of these people will never find out though...

The Escapist? Condoning something illegal?

Someone had better check the guidelines!

Adding insult to injury and also possibly providing a little legal protection for the perpetrators, it turns out that the fake installer actually explained exactly what it was going to do in its terms of service, which of course nobody ever reads.
So this may have been entirely legal.

I personally think that this is HILARIOUS, especially after having heard dozens of TOS jokes over the years.

The funniest and the scariest thing about this? It's all completely legal.

Now...given Blizzard, Bungie, Valve, Zynga or anyone else in the top 32 could do this...to a non-pirated game...can the big companies understand why things like DRM etc. scare us so?

So that installer is basically spyware.
And says so, in the EULA. That's how powerful a EULA can be.

I think this is pretty good. It's a good way to avoid piracy as now the people who were caught might think twice before pirating things again. I feel it is ok as long is it actually said what would really happen on the user agreement. Granted that no one actually reads it but as long as it actually says it where it can be read I think this method is ok. I do not think it is ok if it comes as a total surprise and never said anything about it anywhere. As for me I keep my desktop pretty anonymous.

Lol, pornographic choose-your-own-adventure

"Choice: would you like to bang the hot girl? If yes, turn to page 46, if no, then why in the hell are you even reading this book?!?!?"

Aww, I've never found a single TOS joke, and trust me I've looked way too many times and have given up. Where have you seen any?

I'm glad that someone other than me actually read the article, kudos to Scotth266.

if Valve caught me getting frisky at the sight of Alex Vance I wouldn't be embarrassed, she is a hottie.

If Ubisoft caught me getting hot under the collar over Ezio however... well lets just say my mother wants grandchildren ok?.

Hur de hurr. Just when you think stuff of Japanese origin can't get any more hilarious, it does. "Oh, Japan" indeed.

Is that supposed to be a joke?

As an example of hidden legalities:

Cryptic Studios/NC Soft own the rights to all Superhero characters created under City of Heroes/Villians. If you then publish works concerning those characters (like fan-fic) they legally have a right to challenge you for all royalties. And under the American legal system, if they don't challenge you, they can lose that copyright.

That's what kicked off the original Marvel vs. Cryptic lawsuit.

And I believe that applies to most MMOs. Including WoW.
