This is quite likely the most awesome news I have ever heard. The fact that it actually explains exactly what it's going to do in the terms of service is especially amazing. And that one English screencap was hilarious. And terribly unfortunate for the person, I suppose.

Nice boat, anyone?

*snip*
That would be the peak of misery, if the game also leads to a nice boat kind of ending o.0

I guess that whole article is a bit of a warning note, huh Andy? ;)

And how does spying on people in that manner aid the state, nation or population as a whole?
Well, it only spys on people who've pirated the game, so legally it's under copyright protection. It'd be like taking photos of trespassers.

Under British Law, you could utilise the DPA, but I doubt that works over the 'net.

As funny and ingenious as this is, I think this is also quite illegal.

The funniest and the scariest thing about this? It's all completely legal.
Yeah, I'm gonna argue that... Seems as illegal as illegal things can get without hiring someone to go to your house and raping or murdering you.

Remember, ToSs and EULAs can never override the law, and the collection and consequent publication of sensitive and private information is extremely illegal. Remember DRM got in trouble for simply scanning files, this thing actually takes your shit and shows it to everyone.

I am not trying to take the moral high ground, I've been called a troll before for having very controversial opinions.
I never pirated any game, why are you saying that to me?
I assumed you was taking the moral high ground, why would you care about this otherwise?

I never said you steal, I never said you troll, I never said your a pirate. I did say something along the lines that "taking the moral high ground" is laughable.

Having a controversial opinion doesn't make you a troll by the way, it makes you different to the topical opinions of a board but not a troll.

I'm biting though in this case, why are you outraged by this?, at pirates having their privates on display?.

Taking pictures of criminals is fine but that virus goes through files and personal information.
So does Steam, Battlenet and many others.

But it tells you it's going to do it. And you've accessed it illegally. If what you're suggesting is true, then anyone whose system was hit by a virus could sue the manufacturers of the virus.
The pirated version was "stolen goods", and that, plus the disclaimer, seems to put the onus on the pirate, although IANAL, and I'm assuming they've going to be called in VERY soon.

The law states you can't commit illegal things even to criminals regardless of if the criminal agrees to allow you to do it.
There's a plethora of conflicting laws here, so I'll just say that under British Law (AFIAK) it is legal, but can be reversed at any time. The problem is the data they've utilised isn't strictly illegal. But the DPA (In Britain) allows you to remove it from their site. The new Digital Economy Bill [http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/mar/25/digital-economy-bill-commons] may make it legal anyway.

Aww, I've never found a single TOS joke, and trust me I've looked way too many times and have given up. Where have you seen any?
Here's one. (Video is NSFW: [http://www.friendsoffoamy.com/videos/user-agreement-episode-095] fair warning.)
