The Escapist? Condoning something illegal?

Someone had better check the guidelines!
What's illegal here? The EULA says explicitly what it's going to do, and you have to click the "agree" button, so it seems legal...

And why we need to enact some new laws to protect consumers as widespread piracy paranoia among developers and publishers seems to be trumping the individual's right to privacy. EULAs in particular need some sort of legislature passed which limits the kind of things they can absolve themselves from.
I fully agree. My perspective was that what they've done is AFAIK perfectly legal, which is all the more scary. Your rights exist only as long as you protect them.

You know, this might be a good DRM alternative. Seed installers for your own game like this once it appears on torrent sites, making casual pirates have to worry about dodging the rogue installers.

No DRM means legit buyers have nothing to worry about AND no hassles.

Nice boat, anyone?

I laughed when I saw the Title. Then I was a little ashamed because I know of that game and have watched the anime for it.

By the way, the person with the orange/red hair in that picture is IN FACT the main character. Who is a dude. It's a trap in more ways than one. *Cough* Cross days *Cough* Crossdresser * Cough*

Excuse me, I seem to have some bad congestion.
That....is....not a dude....

Do the Japanese realize it's not possible for a guy to look like that without some sort of ridiculous surgery?

Cross Days- the game that causes you shout "IT'S A TRAP!" at least twice.

(By which I mean, this is the first game in the series with gay options.)

It is a guy. Do you REALLY want me to link to a blog with nude pics of him? No, I didn't think you did.

That's what you get for being Japanese, weird and horny. Also breaking the law probably had a part to play in all this too.

Even if a Pirate is scum, this could set a dangerous precedent for more virus activity on the
Net overall. Yes...it was kinda funny.

I thought the broken pirate Batman games were funny, but this, this just takes the cake. I hope more game companies due stuff like this for the laughs. Maybe if more pirates are scared away by stuff like this, then PC gaming won't have the second class status it has now.

Sad thing is, even if companies to take on themselves to create these false installers, all they do is more work for small reward - after all, who would want to download a completely new and untested program over others, which have been tested by others?

DRM sucks. Online authentications (Steam) seems to be the most efficient way for this, and it's quite sad that AC2 missed the mark with this.

Adding insult to injury and also possibly providing a little legal protection for the perpetrators, it turns out that the fake installer actually explained exactly what it was going to do in its terms of service, which of course nobody ever reads.
Hah, that's my favorite part. That they actually tell you what it's going to do.

But then, for 0verflow, this is far from the weirdest thing in the series. I've seen the family tree of their games, and the father of the main character in School Days is also his Grandfather and Great Grandfather, and at least two generations of parent or grandparent to every girl he ever shags except one (Sekai, I think).

School Days, the next generation [http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_rzdB5a4kLAo/SqrMNWCf2MI/AAAAAAAAQKA/5_z-riV7jgg/s400/preacher-billy-bob-bobbs.jpg].

I would complain aboot rights if i didn't think it was just an overrated concept.
This just makes me laugh. I wonder how the EULA read? Also, where can I get this gam-wait, it's a trap? never min-wait, no screw it, where can I get this game?

So, if a criminal steals your camera, takes nude pictures of someone, and you somehow get your camera back without legal action, are you legally obligated to delete said photos? What if your camera has a program that automatically uploads your photos to a remote site for public viewing?
The comparison you're making is very, very off.
My desktop is part of my "private home area". There could be ANYTHING on there, just as there could be anything lying around in my living room. Naked pictures of family & friends, credit card numbers, pins, whatever. The company that did this might just as well break into my house and take pictures of what is going on there.
Imagine I have my bank account login on my desktop because I use online-banking and frequently forget it. Now that guys upload a screenshot of it on the internet and my life savings are gone. Awesome.

What you are saying makes no sense. How has someone uploading a picture of my private life got something to do with a guy stealing my camera and taking pictures?
You have my analogy backwards, and you missed my point. (I was counterpointing your "So suddenly your girlfriend is naked on the internet and she didn't do anything wrong.")

Although I suppose the questionable part would be the "upload it to the internet", really. So I'm not really sure where I was going with that train of thought before.

This is hilarious. Yes, I'm sure the Privacy Rights Alliance will be touting their horns, but they will choose not to mention that the Terms of Use stated everything that was going to happen with that program. The 'victims' accepted the terms of use, and now they're getting what they agreed to... publication of their perverted habits.

My advice to the 'victims': Be Proud of Your Perverted Habits!

I could imagine the sudden increase in suicide rates if this became REAL DRM.

And suddenly people would actually read the TOS
