Funnily enough, that's what I thought of too. :) That was the time Arthur and Ford spent floating in space before they were picked up, after all.

Anyway, since I'm clearly missing something, can someone point out where we get the info from that Portal 2 is taking place a whole 200 years post-HL2?
Well, the general theory is that when you first wake up in Portal 2, the voice says you've been in stasis for 50 days, when you wake up again it says 99999 *fizzle*, or over 273 years, at the least. The level of vegetation in the facility and the amount of general decay seems to confirm that the place has been left alone for a -very- long time.

I'd suspect that Chell( Shell) is the former body of Caroline

And about the songs Still alive was more of a surprise then part 2 everybody expected a song which is and in future retrospect will be better then how we think about it now.
I have another wrinkle for you, then.
When you see the Bring Your Daughter To Work Day science fair, the presentation all the way at the end (with the plant growing out of it) says "By Chell". That's why I believe Chell was actually Caroline's daugther.

While I found the ending a little snooker loopy, I thoroughly and whole-heartedly enjoyed Portal 2. I was like, "WTF" at the portal-at-the-moon thing, but I loved Wheatley (both good and bad - especially bad), I found the boss battle enjoyable, and I liked that this one had a "proper" ending rather than Chell just blacking out at the end. I was also very glad that GLaDOS deleted Caroline, I was afraid she'd slip too far out of character for my liking, but her deleting her restored all faith.

Great song, too. I heart Fat Turret.

All in all, I bloody love this game. And Stephen Merchant. I love GLaDOS so much, but my GOD he blew me away. He was incredible and my favourite part of Portal 2.
You know, there's a theory floating around - that I support - that says that, given the lyrics to "Want You Gone", GLaDOS didn't actually delete Caroline, but just said she did. Why would she do that? Because she wanted to intimidate Chell into leaving. That's also why she suddenly seemed to forget the rapport they built up while she was PotatOS. She wanted Chell to WANT to leave, because if she didn't leave (or tried to come back), GLaDOS would be forced by the wiring of her body to make Chell test AGAIN, and she wants better for her.

My favorite game ending ever <3
Portal 2 was every bit as great as I hoped it would be, and the boss battle was just brilliant.
also, SPAAAAAACE!
One of my favorite things Glad0s says in the game is when Wheatly smashes you down the hole:
"So how are you holding up?..."
"Because I'm a potat0!" Simply priceless... :')

Another thing most people don't understand...

The moon DOES have an atmosphere. It's just a lot thinner than ours is.

It IS theoretically possible to survive for a few moments on it's surface unprotected.

Add that to the air rushing in from the portal... And you get a plausible outcome.

Also; the Chell as Caroline's daughter thing...

Mostly based on the fact that about half the words
in the turret opera are "Daughter" or "Child".

There is a lot more evidence too... Going all the way back into Portal 1 and why the sleeping pod was so small... To the teddy bear in the Portal 2 comic...
To the [REDACTED] at Chell's surname in the comic...

And of course the potato battery that was "Made by: Chell".

The fact that it's overgrown is also a bit of symbolism...
Only one potato battery survived... And it's the one made by the one surviving human.

Also, another fact people seem to miss...

The "You've been asleep for... 99999 doesn't LITERALLY mean 99,999 days.
See, when computers try to output infinity, or other really huge numbers, in binary...

Things don't work that well, and it comes out all nines.

The ending was amazing; best ending I've ever had the joy of experiencing. The battle with Wheatley was very well-done (it was unique enough to not feel like a rehash of GLaDOS in Portal 1, yet similar enough to bring back memories), and shooting a portal to the moon just made it all feel so...epic.

And then the actual ending (GLaDOS letting you go, the turret opera, the Animal King, freedom and of COURSE the companion cube) were all just incredibly satisfying. It was a very worthy ending for a very worthy sequel, and I loved both the game and the ending even more than the first Portal.

That said, I am absolutely convinced GLaDOS lied about deleted Caroline. She even mentions Caroline in the ending song....

Companion Cube survived! :)

I don't get how Chell came up with the idea of sending Wheatley to space. How was she expecting to survive it?

Anyway, the ending was awesome. I felt kind of bad for Wheatley though, but that's what he gets for those annoying Barclays adverts.

Well, when i was at that point (Ceiling broke and i saw the moon) i was just: "FUCK YEAH..., bye-bye Wheatley" totally shot it in less then a second- i wasn't expecting to get sucked down too... I was preparing to fire another portal to close this up fast and than: BAM! MOOOOON.

I loved the whole ending fight too, it was all so seemless, intuitive. Couldn't tell if it was a cutscene or if i was doing all this.

Overall i have to say: THIS is how you tell a story. (And even if Chell doesn't talk - which i normaly HATE) I cared for all (three) characters. It was funny, weird and interesting.

GREAT game overall.

In the end he talks about "you not being the first." But it sounds like he's lying.
He must be.
The floor caved in, and there was nothing deadly before that point.
The floor would have already been broken if there had been others.

The best ending ever. Absolutely blew my mind. And you know what? My brother wants to take the game back. Says it's not his "type of game". If I wasn't speechless at this comment, I would have yelled until he went deaf. He says he prefers COD. He hasn't played the single player story, only the co-op, and I think he was discouraged by the idea of teamwork and puzzle solving, and me punching him in the arm because he shifted his portals and removed the hard light bridge from under me while I was busy trying to succeed. Over and over. AND OVER. AND THEN HE WOULD LAUGH.

It was an alright song and ending, didn't think that much of portal 2 i'm afraid, the moon ending felt a little contrived.

Are people really that impressed by the gel being made of moon rocks when that was clearly added to fit the ending much like how James Bond gadgets are written last to fit the story then added to the beggining to justify them.

Definitely a great ending. Though the best part of the ending was when you get chucked out into the field, and then a second later your charred companion cube (presumably the one you dumped into the furnace in the first game) gets tossed too. It makes me think that GLaDOS is still somewhat sentimental.

I haven't played the co-op yet though.

That.

Was.

Fucking.

Awesome.

I mean, how many games end with transporting your opponent onto the moon? Seriously. That's not something you're ever going to see in Call of Duty 7 or Cover-Based Shooter #48851.

GLaDOS was awesome. Turret opera was awesome. Ending was awesome. "Want You Gone" was pretty cool. I personally prefer "Still Alive", but the new one was still good.

Valve are incredible. Maybe saying that makes me a fanboy, I don't care. They're brilliant. Period.

Oh, and of course, how could I not mention, "Space? Space! Spaaaaaaaaaace!" I'm going to enjoy it now before it become the new "Cake is a lie."

1. At the end of Portal 1, we see a parking lot surrounded by a lush, green landscape, covered in trees. At the end of 2, we're in Ohioan wheat fields. Yes, it's a massive facility, but I didn't get the sense that we traveled very far horizontally, only vertically. Plus we wound up in GLaDoS' chamber again, so the elevator up should have brought us back to the same parking lot.
However, Wheatly was moving around all the chambers. So who knows where we ended up?

I loved the ending to P2, and I'm sure I had one of the strangest WTF faces during the Turret Song. Personally, aside from P3 possibly being tied into the HL series, I want to see a P0 and explore more of Ancient Appature Science. Personally I found that whole area to be the best part of P2, and even better then P1. For Science!

It has been stated by Gabe Newell in an October 2007 interview that Chell has importance in the overall Half-Life universe, and will eventually have a fairly significant relationship with some of the other characters that we are already familiar with.[7]

Information is from The Combine Overwiki, the Half Life/ Portal wiki site.

http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Chell this is the character profile for chell and the information above is posted in the behind the scenes section

http://www.g4tv.com/videos/18508/X-Play-Preview-Portal/ that is the poitn of refrence. An interview with some of the people involved in the orginal Portal design. in it Gabe Newell himslef says that Chell will be important in the half life univers, not just within the portal timeframe.

This... no need to write it myself... it was just awesome.

And I had a talk with one of my friends... and I ended up agreeing him on, that I was turning into somewhat a Portal 2 fanboy, just because I had used 2 days to go though EVERYTHING there was found in the Portal, Portal 2, ARG and so forth. Everything I could find which had a connection to each other... But I say, it was worth it! There are soo much more cool stuff you can discover about portal, portal 2 and half-life from all hose hidden goodies.

I did not know this was a fact spoken by Lord Newell himself! Thanks for the links, I like to gather as much fact on Half Life as possible, details are so scarce these days.

I know right? it's so annyong knowing that this is all happening in the same unvierse and never knowing when its going to collide. What is Chell shows up in Episode 3? OR the Combine discover GlaDoS, or Wheatley crashes to earth and is used by Dog as a fetch ball? the possibilities man!

"So how are you Holding up? BECAUSE I'M A POTATO". = NEW FML expression?

I'm so happy for the Space Core, he's just such a happy little guy. the only one in the game who's actually freakin happy! (despite the fact he's voiced my Nolan North) I love that little guy!

The parallel with Promtheus was not unnoticed. The ending was great and the only part I have questions about is the fields of wheat on the surface.

1. At the end of Portal 1, we see a parking lot surrounded by a lush, green landscape, covered in trees. At the end of 2, we're in Ohioan wheat fields. Yes, it's a massive facility, but I didn't get the sense that we traveled very far horizontally, only vertically. 2. We're pretty much certain that the combine get a full defeat at then end of Episode 3, but this seems to promise us that the earth gets back to normal. Earth is lookin' pretty good now, with blue skies and abundant grain. This could also mean that North America is largely untouched by the Combine, as HL2 is in Europe somewhere.
That's true, but the main characters come directly from Black Mesa. Which is in New Mexico. Which is in America. Which means that they either went to City 17 voluntarily, or where put there by the Combine, who juggle around with the populations of the Cities to stop them from settling down, making friends and connections. I don't think they went to City 17 voluntarily, which leaves only the option of them being put there by the Combine, which means that the U.S. is also under Combine control.

Not to mention the Seven Hour War which supposedly ended in global Combine victory.
