I wish they would be clear when making big sweeping stamtents like this

I mean really this could mean anything, like all future games will incorporate some kind of co-op or what ever

but yeah....fuck not what I wanted to hear

valve is now soaring along its jet ski about to jump the shark....all it will take is some official word.

SERIOUSLY hope this is BS. if all they mean is steam connectivity or something minor like that then fine, but if the superjesus of gaming that is valve has fallen into the same narrow-minded idea that single-player games are inherently inferior that plagues the industry....i quit. if valve themselves are being pulled into the "everything must have multiplayer to be marketable" follow the leader bullshit instead of innovating against it as theyve always done.... i'll take up cult movie collection or something, at least that hobby doesnt continually punch me in the balls with disappointing development after disappointing development.

might as well err on the side of caution and start looking for copies of manos the hands of fate i suppose.

Noo, I play almost only singleplayer games, multiplayer is difficult for me to arrange, given that I work long hours and don't have that many friends of XBLA or Steam.

This stories title is highly misleading and the person who wrote it seems to have worded it such just to get more hits and cause unnecessary worry and confusion, shame on you escapist.

All this means is that there is a likelihood that any game now released by valve will have some multiplayer aspect whether that's as far as a multiplayer mode, a co-op mode or something as minimal as a leaderboard, perhaps something new and original no one has thought up; that would be in Valves nature to innovate.

The amount of unnecessary hyperbolic bitching and complaining that some people do is truly astonishing, you'd think Valve had blown up a school or orphanage the way people react to a statement like this. Get over yourselves people; takes things in your stride rather than let practically anything get all uncomfortably crammed up your arse (metaphorically speaking). But then I guess people do use their mouths before their brains so I shouldn't be surprised at all the negative reactions; idiocy is infectious.

Awww but I like being antisocial and playing single player! *sniff*
Hopfully this just means future games will have multiplayer. Not be centred on multiplayer.

This comes from Geoff Keighley? The man whose interview technique consists of a series of "will there be..." and "will it have..." questions, fishing desperately for infromation and reading anything into developer's replies. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

This is not information, it is speculation.

Of course they are still working 'on' Episode 3. They put all the design documents and scripts under the carpet years ago.

I have lost any and all interest for Valve and what ever they produce.
Might remember them again when they roll around with Half-Life 3. But probably not before that

NO. BAD. VALVE, NO.
Excellent single player stories are why you are famous. Do not jump on the multiplayer bandwagon, because focusing on something that is not the story diminishes the value of your games.

Yeah. I'm loving Valve more and more now. Thanks for caring so much. /sarcasm

EDIT: I want to type really nasty words here... really nasty.
You not so crazy about this multiplayer take over either? I thought I was alone.

You sure this might not be out of context. Could it be they meant "isolated" as in no other humanoid characters to interact with? Isolated as in a character trapped in an environment where they are alone?

to be fair however I think that any game Valve makes will be good....just multiplayer and therefore not really for me unfortunatley

though lets face it this article is so vauge it could mean pretty much anything I mean some games that have co-op doesnt mean NOT using co-op or the like ruins the experience (well there was borderlands which could have been a great game if they didnt make it tedious to play single player)

my biggests worry is that eather way Ill have to be conected to the internet to play....NOT cool valve....NOT cool (learn anything from Ubisoft?)

hmmm I doubt it "isolated without other epople" isnt exactly a big theme...well you do spend alot of time in Half life alone

but my point is its like saying "we wont be making any games whre your charachter is alone all the time" I mean that doesnt make much sense

Im guess co-op is going to be a big thing

for the single player crowd thats not always a game killer, take saints row 2 for example

then theres borderlands...great game if only it wasnt dull for SP

I mean I see them going down a left 4 dead route I guess

My thoughts are the quote is referring that it might be the last Portal title Valve creates with an isolated character single player experience. Time will tell on who is right. I won't buy another Valve title if my only option to play is with 12 year old ear-rapists. It would seem odd to me that a company would close the door on a gaming type that put them on the map. It's sort of like Ferrari saying they aren't going to build anymore sports cars.

I haven't played Half-life and I've not got Portal 2 yet but maybe since its in the same world the 3rd game for both will be combined! Like GLaDOS was training her up to take down the baddies with that Gordon bloke!

People need to just calm down. He said Portal 2 was the last gane with an isolated singleplayer experience meaning that all their future games will probably have some sort of multiplayer component instead of making a seperate multiplayer game *cough* Half Life 2: Deathmatch *cough*. Portal 2 had multiplayer so there might be another Portal game but honestly? Where does Portal go from here?
