Man, someone doesn't know how to work the focus on their camera.

Why does the video say it's a Portal/Dr. Horrible speech? If there was any Dr. Horrible in it, I missed it.
I was waiting for that, too.
In my opinion, geek culture should never interfere with the real world.

What exactly IS a Valedictorian?
It's the member of a high school class with the highest grade point average. Basically, the person with the best grades/credits.

Now, to actually address the video... that was hilarious!

The Dr. Horiible line was at about 1:52 in the vid:
"All that matters is taking matters into your own hands."

Because it wasn't original, it wasn't funny and it really does reinforce the ideals that all nerds can think about is video games. He was just given an award for having the highest grade point average, that should be an honor. And he uses his time to go on a Nerdy Mouth wank.

Who cares? It's a high school valedictorian speech. Yeah, it's a good job, but since he earned the title, and since the title gives him nothing but that- a title- I think he has the right to have a little fun with his speech. And as for it enforcing the ideal that "all nerds can think about is video games"... No. In fact, it shows that they have a sense of humor and feel comfortable enough to be funny with their hobbies and encorporate them into normal society.

It's a bit childish, yes, but in no way does it make him seem like a douchebag.

Though I will agree it was unoriginal. It hasn't been used in a speech like that, but it's been used enough.

I know Still Alive pretty well and I may have not caught that.

Except when he talked about doing what he must because they could, I would have recognized that.

Portal or not, the guy's delivery left much to be desired as he tried too hard to be too haughty when delivering slightly tweaked lyrics of a video game song.

Still, I prefer his speech over the valedictorian imbecile who made a 20 minute speech about the new car she received for graduating during my graduation. She described the make, model, color, leather interior, and CD player in such wonderful detail that someone/some people found it in the parking lot and keyed our class year and other random scratches onto her new car.

It seems this speech is part of some book of cliche valedictorian speeches to give since my brother sat through a 30 minute version of it (I guess newer cars have more features like GPS and MP3 jacks to brag about) during his graduation this month. As history repeats itself, that valedictorian's car wound up keyed beyond belief after the ceremony.
