I don't see any real sex appeal, just sluttiness and an overly long legged woman...
perhaps it's cause i'm vicious and you're spike, but I think that scene oozes sex appeal, and her legs are an amplifier cranked up to 11! there aren't many other things more sexy than a woman with long, slender, silky-smooth legs that she can just wrap around ur waist as she digs her nails in ur back..... **AHEM** exscuse me, my mind started to wander... lol

but i do agree on some deffinate sluttiness here and there :D
Remember, spike kills vicious in an epic murder suicide mission because you had Julia killed

Idk, when I see bayanetta (can't spell her name) I see a for guys version of Devil May Cry... Which was original and decent but as the series progressed, Dante wore less and less clothes, and you didn't hear anyone try to justify that fact. Also Dante was EVERY demon fangirls dream.... But I digress

Maybe I should actually play the game before I knock it

And yes, freakishly long legs or not... I'd hit that too

Really, this reminds me of a Family Guy joke.

"What's the difference between porn and art? A goverment grant!"

Seriously, stop talking out your ass about how your fanservice is something more then what people can see.

What's next? Hentai a work of mordern art? Tentacles represent the forces that hold us down.

Ya every time I go to the mall I see women in cloths story having random kinky posed dance battles to show their rivalry. Sound more like he's just wishing all women handled their hate for each other this way.
I take it you aren't too familiar with the meaning of the word "metaphor".
Or the phrase "clothing store" for that matter.

Unless Cloths Story is a new JRPG I don't know about. Which I suppose is possible.

No, this is *exactly* what we do during sleepovers. Except, we also pull out knives and sing while we kung fu fight:

"When you're a Jet, you're a Jet all the way! From your first cigarette to your last dying day!"
*sigh*

If only...

"He said that every woman regards every other woman as an enemy, and that's the idea that he was trying to convey. Even women who pass each other on the street will check out how the other looks, he said, with antagonism possible in even those brief meetings."

Hmmmm...I don't quite agree with this. I'll acknowledge that I do do a little mini-scan when meeting different women, but it's rarely with antagonism. You could say it's like the little mini-scan I give everyone when I meet them. It's more to give me a glimpse as to what they're like as a person (and potentially ask where they got their shoes). But I certainly don't regard every woman I meet as my enemy, probably not even most women I meet. And I'd say that I have about the same ratio of male friends as female friends.

I wonder how many people on this thread who said something along the lines of "sexist jack-off material" actually played the game. Doesn't anyone else think that we are to quick to stomp on the "SEXIST!! ME HATE SEXUAL CONTENT!! I DOES NOT APPROVE!!" button these days, even when (being very careful with my words) it's used in a "ironic" context or where it simply isn't warrented?

OT: Eh, okay, I never thought of it that way but it does help explain that scene and the mind set of the developer a little bit. Slightly interesting!

Exemplary examples of game design such as Bayonetta do not get the credit they deserve because of the many ignorant and judgemental people in this thread who conformationally spout tripe about how they 'never gave it a 2nd chance' because they took one look at what they thought was an overly sexual game character and immediately assumed the game was trash and an 'insult to our intelligence'.

Having played the game, Bayonetta is one of the most memorable characters ever created, in my opinion. No, not because her figure is exploited in a number of provocative cut scenes, but because her flamboyancy gels so perfectly with the fantastical nature of the game that it doesn't seem out of place or exploitative.

Seriously, play the game and experience its awesomeness, enjoy the over-the-top storyline and characters, and most of all, don't get so easily offended.

>.< Seriously, the game looks like it has fun fighting mechanics, but I will never play it because the over the top "sexyness" takes the piss.

I agreed with them up to the point "Joy" transformed, spread her legs and rubbed her (glowing?) crotch; then it went from social commentary into parody. Well, you can't say that Joy doesn't live up to her name.

You know, in the real world, you don't ever see artists TELLING their audience that something is a metaphor, because if they've done their job properly they shouldn't have to, they let critics draw it out. The people you see claiming something is a metaphor are the ones being called out on something stupid or shallow and trying to justify it by being as pretentious as possible.
That about sums it up. Most people who have written genuinely meaningful or allegorical narratives or ideas usually just shrug their shoulders when asked about it. Kamiya here is just desperately trying to justify why his idea of "sexiness" has as much grace as a retarded rhino rampaging through a mall while blaring Dragonforce on a boombox
