I'm still not happy about this subscription stuff... why not give it to us for free as they always have??? Sure they will make money out of it but customers sure won't be happy about it, its a bad marketing strategy, considering how they've been bragging about their online being free all this time...

They NEED money, Sony is bleeding money like they've gone emo. Apparently if you add up the financial statements of their game division since the release of the original PlayStation you arrive at a net loss, they've lost all the money the PS1 and 2 eras have made them with the PS3. Right now they need money more than marketing.

Not a chance. The only thing it could logically affect is multiplayer or online functionality.

Look at it this way: they can't make elements of the single-player experience subscription-based, because that totally fucks people who bought the game and who can't connect their console to the internet. You'd have to be CRAZY to think about denying people access to single-player content if they didn't have a subscription. People would go fucking bananas.

Well, this is going to make the classic "We don't have to pay for our online unlike you microsoft tards do" argument a bit useless. The subscription is going to be Sony's equivalent of "Gold Membership", because lets face it, there are so many features you are going to want to get it in fear of being left out on so much stuff.

im talkin about how many potential buys they will loose if they do this since people i know have only bought one for the free service, so if u get a better service and a cheaper console with the xbox there going to loose.

If that's true, sorry for my harsh language, but i say "fuck it". by the past, i've changed sides to PS3 due to an abominable dark hole of Microsoft forgetting it's Xbox 1 fans like the Titanic, and now i see more BS about Sony making the same mistakes as Microsoft... bah that's why PC will never die, "because you can cheat console gamers, but never a PC gamer."

Party chat is only for gold members. But private chat, which is cross-game capable, is free for silver members.

I think online play will still be free...
Those are just bonuses you get on top of what you already have.
I dunno, depending on the cost of membership it might actually be worth it to get free access to PSOne games and discounts.
The thing I'm interested most is the cloud storage for games part....
