Alright, I'm done being angry, and I've had an idea.

What if we, the PC crowd, didn't need Bethesda to get Dawnguard, what if they had already given us free access to the developer tools, and a place to publish fan-made content for instant download and install.

All I'm saying is that we have the tools, and quick look at the the Steam Workshop proves we have the talent. Why not just rip as many files as we can from the Xbox version of Dawnguard, feed it through the developer tools given out by Bethesda, and then recreate whatever is left over.
We could have the whole DLC package with a bit of know-how and a smidgen of effort.

I don't know anyone with the hacking smarts to pull DLC files off an Xbox, nor anyone who has modding experience, but I'm betting some of you do.

Thoughts? Refutations? Death Threats? I want opinions. I expect this thread to go unanswered though, they usually do.

Who is this "we"?

Vague requests to skilled individuals who probably aren't reading this forum do, yes you are right, tend to get "ignored."

Also what you are suggesting is basically piracy, and a less extreme but more work heavy version of what you are suggesting would be plagiarism.

Well, first of all, as Scrustle says, it's illegal. I've also read somewhere, when I was reading about Dawnguard that the texture files are saved in a different file extension, making it very time consuming and difficult to convert to the PC Skyrim version. I think it was something to that effect, but to be honest, I'm not 100% sure and I can't seem to find the place I read it again.

Anyway, I'd say that the Steam Workshop have more than enough content to keep people happy until Bethesda releases it for the PC. Don't get me wrong, I think it's quite silly as well, but there's not a whole lot to do, to be honest.

Pretty sure what you're suggesting is equivalent to piracy.

It's only been a month, they are working on other things at the moment. Patience is a virtue.

Well that is basically piracy, lots of work put into it but still piracy.
I understand your yearning for more content but it will just haveto wait, also gives us a chance to think on what this DLC actually brings, at $20 you would expect it to bring in 1/3 of what the base game has... but it doesn't, not even close.
So use this time for some reflection and think about the things you actually want to support.

Since when do they have no plans to release it on PC or PS3? Last time I checked, it was to come out a month after it does on 360, you know, exactly what a timed exclusive is?
You'd think that, but according to Bethesda, they haven't even announced the game for PC or PS3.

It's left quite a few people pretty miffed, to put it lightly.

Oh, have a little patience for fucks sake. It will come out on PC when Bethesda releases it. Pirating the content from the 360 version won't help anything.

Aren't there already better vampire overhaul mods than Dawnguard? No need to pirate something inferior.

if you really want vampires or crossbows just mod them in. i avoid vampire mods since i don't enjoy playing as one but there are several with absurd amounts of thought and ideas behind them. some are even well implemented.

The new content is also pretty appealing tbh. Hope they do end up releasing it on PC.

The 'solution' you're offering would only be acceptable if it solves all or most of the problems, yet you're forgetting us PS3 players, who have been utterly disregarded by Bethesda.
Not that I think Dawnguard is worth the $20 asking price, mind you, but it's the principle that matters. Bethesda has really let down the PS3 audience in this regard, not to mention they have yet to release 1.6, which is inexcusable considering the state the PS3 version of Skyrim is in.

Been a long time since I was into the modding scene (no really I think the last mod I made was for Morrowind when it was new) but I think its possible to do that. Still the issue you're facing is a spiritual (not literal) piracy of the DLC. Im all for modding your own adventures but Im not for pirating someone elses hard work.

On that note, speaking as someone whos played a lot of dawnguard on my Xbox, Dawnguard isnt all that great. It's ok, but not amazing and there are many parts in it that just contradictions of vampire lore. Sure the story sounds amazing and interesting but IMO its really just average when you get into it.

Be patient and wait if you're really itching to play it.

There are far better vampire and werewolf mods out already.

That said i'm not too bothered about Dawnguard. It was said it was going to be "expansion" sized yet it's only a few hours worth of content.

I'm not bothering with it.

I'll stick to making my own quest mods.

I want to say I hate to sound like an arse but i'd be lying so here goes.

Do you know what a month is?

26th June it was released on 360 and it's now 28th July and still no announcement on when it's being released on PC and PS3.

In fact Bathesda hasn't mentioned it at all leading to lots of speculation and a lot of annoyed people over various forums.

By timed exclusive, what Bathesda really meant to say was "we'll release it on 360 now and the rest when we can be arsed".

It's not really worth the money anyway. I loved skyrim itself, but through dawnguard it was mostly 'meh'. Luckily it's not that long :p I guess you can play it twice but I haven't bothered.

Or you could, you know, play a different game until Bethesda decides to get round to releasing it for PS3 or PC, if they ever do.

My option is also a lot less illegal too =D

Yeah that's copyright infringement. Besides, they tried to do that with Dead Money with new vegas, but they couldn't get the sound or texture files out. You basically had a bunch of bald naked dudes swimming around an empty world space.

I understand the frustration though. I'm pretty disappointed with Skyrim's modding scene. There are virtually no quest mods. There are a few contextless dungeon crawls, but those are basically just copypasted from the main game with harder enemies. There are no New Vegas Bounties, or The Institute, or Tears of the Fiend. Nothing of substance.

Ooh but you can mod your characters to look like barbies and then watch them fuck!

Sigh...
On both counts, be patient; the Skyrim modding scene is in its infancy, and it will take a while for something of that calibre to appear. As for Dawnguard it isn't as though Bethesda are never going to release it, that would be insane, they are just working out their plans. Awesome quest mods will come, Dawnguard will come. Play something else, there's an absolute embarrassment of riches out there.
