Gezz Furby you where still under 11,000 posts when I cracked 6000. Do you even sleep anymore?
Let's just say that PRIATE has a lot to offer.

Still though, I am worried about my post count. It's a bit...much. When I posted 500 times in one day I started to get a bit concerned about my well being.
..You're only starting to worry about your well being NOW?

Yeah, I got to wondering exactly why I spend so much time on this site when I managed just over 120 posts in a single day. 500 is somewhat unimaginable to me. How can you have that much to say?

Number of posts mean nothing, but sadly, there is no way to tell a persons quality of posts either, without backtracking through thousands of pages.

Yes, sadly.

Don't worry though! I'll be fine. Neonbob has the highest post count on the site and he's still charming and fun to talk to.

Well, I'd estimate that 85% is just meaningless chit chat on groups.
Group chat affects your post count...

SO THATS WHY SBS ROSE SO FAST...

OT: Seriously I don't care about post count...except Neonbobs post count. You filthy whale nuker! :O
Who are you calling a peon?
Any large green people who harvest gold and trees and say zug zug what else?
There are peons on this forum? Where?
Check the gold mine or the forests!
>.> Don't play with me.
:C ...

But but ...Zug zug?
If you say that again
Hardly a bad thing, sending a good anime to me? What a pal!

It's generally quality rather than quantity that makes certain Escapist members stand out. But it also just means that those people are seen more and thus are more well known in the community.

Most people really don't give a toss about post count. To associate it with being a good poster is pretty foolish. I mean look at me; my post count is pretty high and I definitely wouldn't consider my posts to be a bastion of intellect. Though a higher post count usually means you spend more time with the community, hence people pay more attention to your opinion. But that has less to do with your post count and more to do with your interactions with the community.
I already know you, but that's because I see your post, I see your avatar and I think "I've seen that before". Then I look at the name and think "Oh, that's XXXXXX XXXXXX"

I would say that the badges would be a (slightly) better guide than post count, although not the be all and end all by any means. Just a better indication than the post cont.

Kinda this. Back before forum games and groups, a high post count means that you actually posted a lot. And the quality of they forums were (generally) a bit higher. Therefore, someone who had a high post count had posted a lot of great stuff.

Mind you, anything over 1500 posts was amazing.
Yes, I remember the days. I wonder why things changed. :/
ZP's popularity happened, people registering to say "First!" and generally be dicks is why the old school hated newbies.

Slowly the haters got banned for being xenophobic towards newbies, like not letting them "play" with them in forum games and such like.

If you really really want, you can be a peon, but it's not a flattering title.
'Paperboy' is not a flattering title. I'll take 'Peon' until something better comes along. Like 'Super Pirate General'
Well then post more, as they say once you Gone Gonzo you never go back.
Not going to post stuff for the sake of posting stuff... wait a mi... aw fuck. =(

Not to mention Paperboy is sexist, it should be "PaperPerson".

*wipes tear* they're all matyrs.
A high post count can mean you have a tight knit circle of buds in the forum games and RP's or you have been here a while.
The former is the story for me.

In theory, no.

In reality, people who have ridiculously high post counts must have made all of them without being banned, so they're probably alright.

Nothing.
Except maybe over-active typing.

Pretty much.

I look at the post count, date joined and I know if it's someone who has anything relevant to say, or just someone who makes 20-30 posts a day.

High post counts doesn't really make you awesome, unless the majority of the post are awesome. I always try to have some quality in my posts, but my low post count is mostly due to the fact that I don't find every single topic interesting enough to engage in a discussion. Some people do though, and that's mainly how they become recognizable. (that and something distinguishing, like a good sense of humor, or a bad one for that matter)

Correct!

For example, more than half my post count is on groups. If I didn't have groups, I'd be at about 8000 by now.
Same here! It's scary, ya know!

Not really. I have a reasonably large post count, yet people keep sending me PMs asking why they've never seen me before.
