*puts on the Mortal Combat theme*

While I found the games to be mediocre, that theme was the redeeming thing in my eyes >.>

but they don't need more of them....

To be fair, I think they said Mortal Kombat: Armageddon would be the last of the original "generation" of MK games, and that's probably for the best. I mean, the roster was getting out of control with characters that no one cared about (Ashrah, Shujinko and Mavado, to me, were completely useless), the plots were getting excessively silly, the final bosses were getting incredibly bullshit (seriously, Onaga was immune to being knocked into spikes, grab attacks and knockbacks in Deception which is all bullshit) and the fatalities were kind of lacking that originality. What do I mean? Well, remember how brutal we thought it was that Kano ripped a guy's beating heart out of his chest in the first game AND IT WAS STILL BEATING? Yeah, now imagine that but Kano's just saying "let's see what else is in there" and just starts pulling out random organs.

Well anyway, I think I could've seen a reboot coming. Ed Boon said it was going to end with Armageddon years ago and they were going to reboot the franchise with new characters (even if Scorpion and Sub-Zero would be hiding around somewhere, and I would welcome a return of classic Raiden).

Hopefully this game will be Saweeet! I used to love the MK games, hopefully this will bring some spunk back into the franchise!

Looking forward to it, Something people seem to overlook is that MK does actually have an good story.

I see no reason they can't produce an updated game to appeal to the modern demographic. Provided it's a solid fighter and has crazy ultraviolence it will sell enough to at least break even.

I wish them the best.

MK ... uh ... the beat-em-up staring Liu Kang and blade-hat-guy
Kung Lao, I think his name is. And the game was MK: Shaolin Monks IIRC

Wait, I thought they said they weren't making anymore Mortal Kombat games after Armageddon.
Well yes, they did. And then came MK vs DC Universe, which kinda buttfucked that plan.

Speaking of, I must be one of the only people who actually liked that game. It was less about ridiculously long combos, stance switches, weaponry and all the other MK crap that's been added in over the years, and refined the combos down to much simpler forms. Each character had four moves that consisted of something like 'left-right-B', which were simple enough for me to remember without writing them down. The story was a bag of twat, obviously, and the buttonbash events for moving through walls or between platforms sucked, but I still had fun with the game.

Up until the last boss, anyway. He was almost invincible, and beating him took a hell of a lot of re-tries.
actually ed boon didnt say he would stop MK after armageddon. ed boon was planning to reboot the series after that, and change the main characters only leaving in sub and scorp for obvious reasons. MK vs DC kinda came out no where since ed kept saying after armageddon, the next MK will be darker and more gory.

on a side note: i really HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR THIS GAME IVE BEEN A HUGE FAN SINCE MK1

This is going to fail. Sorry MK was one of the worst 2D fighters made. The only thing the got it any bit of attention was the gore. At least try to do something new with the franchise.
Well, that's what they mean by "reinventing". I guess.

I'm biased against MK I've always been SF2 fan, so I'm unfairly harsh against it. I was hoping this article was really about WB picking up the teaser.

As long as they dump the stupid chain combo's and juggle stuff it should be a good game(got sick of basically having to jam the other character against the invisible barriers to pull off the stupidly long combo's)

Gameplay trailer is finally out and attached to the post, if you haven't seen it already. Say what you will about it, but Kung Lao's fatality looks pretty awesome. :)

Looks like Mortal Kombat is taking a page out of Street Fighter's book. Undoubtedly the best treatment for the series after the humiliation of MKvsDCU.

I have to say, between Super Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs Capcom 3 and now new-old Mortal Kombat, the '10's are looking a lot like the 90's with regards to the fighting genre. I couldn't be happier.

Trying something new is what people griped about. And alot of people like it, so why pander to those who already dont like it?

I noticed, whith the exception of Kira (who was in Sonya's old spot though and may be inactive) all the fighters were never ones added after 3.

Is he red? If he is, he is Sektor, codename Ketchup. If he is yellow, he is Cyrax, codename Mustard. If he is grey, he is Smoke.
