I have been wondering about this for some time also, why the hell do I need to "press start to begin" why can't they just take me straight to the main menu?

I have been wondering about this for some time also, why the hell do I need to "press start to begin" why can't they just take me straight to the main menu?

Because in that split second they ask you to press start, they want to build up anticipation for the game. Oh wow! That split second before starting BioShock really builds up suspense! Oh I can't wait!
