I'm rocking a Mac, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to sport this game, but I'm excited nonetheless.

I like how fireaxis and it's auteur (whose name i just can't remember for the life of me), are not trying to make a "better" version of Civ4, instead going for something different. That's a good sequel, I find.

I'm a raging and huge fanboy though, so I don't know. Civ4 was my favourite game, and dominated many a weekend. I can't wait, but I hope to be smart enough to be able to taste dissapointment.

P.S. I was reading the posts and someone said the game ended at 2012. If that's so, then I want to clap Fireaxis on the back for one of the best tongue-in-cheek moments of recent times. That would absolutely make my life.

Looks much better than Civ 4.

I played 4 for a few days and it get boring far too fast.

The animations look far better and smoother than 4's though. It's certainly one to look out for.

I shall lead the great nation of India to GLORY.

Honestly though, probably won't be getting this for a while, I don't have the time :(

Dear Greg,

I too, am a Civ fanatic. It was Civ II that ate all of my time, as the stack of doom was not the annoyance it is in the later iterations.

What I'm wondering... how does it stack up for you? Is this THE Civ for you?

I'm definitly picking this up, making this the first Civ game I've played since 2.

Apparently, I've got a lot of catching up to do.

Oh, and THE ZULUS WILL RULE ALL.

I read a 3-page preview (with screenshots) of Civ 5 earlier this month, but it's always great to see game play. I really liked how narrator's voice changed as he got more "civilized", or rather changed from one Civ to another. Also, got to love the fact that they got rid of the Stacks'Of'Doom. I hated seeing stacks of 20+ units rolling down a pitiable excuse of a road, and then just stand there turn after turn launching attacks against my city. There was no refinement in the combat system, except for building bigger stacks of units and matching them against your foes.

I'll definitely have to get this game!

I love this game. I have lost so much of my life to Civ. It's a damn shame that there is no way my laptop will run it...
You have not 'lost' anything my friend. Time spent with Civ is time well spent.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on whether you liked being invaded by thousands of Impi Warriors), the Zulus are not in Civ V.

You can play as the Songhai Empire though.

I dig the in character preview. I need this game now. I'm going to be watching the live play session from Firaxis at 4 PM EDT because there's no way I can get too much information on this game.

I still play Civ 3, even 4 years after I got it. Civ games are addicting; can't wait to get this.

I thought Greg's review was a little to unorthodox and a bit cheezy...But informative none the less, i see myself enjoying this game.

Any ideas what kind of performance this game requires? I'm wondering if i can play it on my laptop...

I love the new voice actor, his voice makes me happy! :D

Also, can't wait to try out the new hexagonal system, It makes the borders seem a lot more natural than the older block-ish ones.

this finally looks like a Civilization worth playing, I have Civil 3 and it sucked because the easiest level was the only level that I could compete with the other nations but the game could end without a conflict. I had to start wars myself most of the time and it looks like they added a few more nations and smaller city states along with barbarians. I haven't play the fourth game but it seems like they have added armies as a regular feature. The third one, you needed to have a war hero or a small wonder (I forget which one) to create an army. This game seems so much better than any turn based game I ever seen. :)

Excellent in-character review, Greg. I greatly enjoyed watching this.
When my laptop gets back from the shop, I might consider saving up for this. I had enough fun with the first Civ and Civ Rev, and this looks like it's gonna be a lot more in-depth.
Plus, I have some friends who run multi-player games of Civ somehow, and that sounds like fun, too.
