I actually started a thread about this, glad you guys picked it up. I'm disapointed there abandoning the Native American angle, which at least made the game unique. Welcome to generic whitey mcshooterguy land z-z

I don't care 'bout no stupid air marshal, I still want to find out where Tommy was going in the post-credits scene! Also, the doors in Prey were more like sphincters.

The trailer's okay, but it's good evidence as to why videogame developers shouldn't be filmmakers. That is some hammy fucking acting right there.

Some actual footage from the videogame they're making would be nice... you know... every once in a while...

I saw "Prey 2" and thought "hell yeah".
But then the rest of this thread has instilled some doubt... I was kind of hoping for some kind of continuation of Tommy's storyline. I know a lot of people disliked the Native American themes and devices (including the afterlife one and various other things) but I actually found it all quite interesting, and the new mechanics specific to that character spiced it up a lot in comparison with countless other shooters which could be seen as very similar.

I hope they don't make this into another generic "guy in space" shooter, even if it's a generic guy in space shooter with portals (unless of course there's something new they can bring to that formula)

Tommy better be essential to the plot. The first suggested a sequal...as Tommy.
Tommy was possibly the most unlikeable protagonist in games ever, and the principal reason why original prey wasn't such a good game.

Agreed I loved the Native American stuff and really want to see more powers.

I didn't find him that unlikeable and even so a jerkass non-stereotypical native american is better than another space marine.

This reminds me of a cold open from Fringe which can only be a good thing. Awesome show by the way if you want a good sci-fi genre piece.
I was thinking that too. That's probably why I liked this so much.

The first one really needed more weapons, and a better death system, but I still loved it...

The gravity walkways made me physically sick, which I always thought was awesome!

The debut trailer for Prey 2 [http://www.facebook.com/prey2] is out and I'll be honest with you: if you're hoping to learn something useful, you're in for a big disappointment.
I learned something useful: Don't take the plane
I thought most people learned that from watching Lost :p

I really did like the first game. I hope Tommy returns in this one. I do not want to be some US Marshal in space. That would make the game rather generic. The whole selling point to the first game was the story to it.

Also,
the end of the game had Tommy go through a portal which clearly indicated a sequel and a continuation of his story.

Actually, 1500 more people died in car accidents following 9/11 due to the fear of plane bombings.

OT: Hopefully they'll implement something "spiritual" or anything that makes it more than the old shooter with normal weapons experience. Perhaps we'll even meet Tommy who has survived a grim and alienated future?

Before reading the article and just starting to watch the trailer the first thing that popped into my head was "I bet this is the plane from that one chapter..."

I've heard they're taking out all the cool alien mind-bending tech (like portals) as well as all the neat environment stuff like that crazy time where you go through a portal and end up shrunk onto that small sphere in a room, stuff like that.

It's just going to be another "shooter guy in space".

1. Fuck yeah, this game is actually happening. I loved the first one.
2. Thank god they're getting rid of that Native American crap. Seriously, aliens invading the afterlife? Fucking really?
3. As long as the environments are just as big, epic, and mind-bending as the original, I'll be happy. I don't care who the protagonist is. (God knows I did my best to ignore Tommy)
i have to disagree with you on the native American thing, cause i think that it gave the game a little more original spin to it, its better than a stupid marine in a power armor, all though Tommy was a bit obnoxious, i can agree on that.

Reserving judgement on this... I found the ad a little annoying. It was set up nicely for an airline-horror type thing, and then everything goes green, and someone starts shooting silly string while going "pew-pew"? Hmm... we'll see.
