I haven't seen it yet, as I have no one to go with. My boyfriend has no interest, as he didn't like the games much (crazy, but true). Sadly, I don't really have any other friends in the area either. OH WELLS.
I actually thought the movie was really good. Every time an epic scene came around the corner, it made me think "Why can't all movies based upon games turn out this good?" ... I really hope in the end it makes more money for a sequel... and for the love of god Uwe Boll, learn from this film! Or better yet just retire.
It was a decent, fairly solid action picture. It had a few stupid moments-
The Hassassins used to be Guardians. And the Guardians know how to get down to the Hourglass of Time. And apparently the Hassassins haven't forgotten this particular knowledge, because the Big Bad is waiting for them at the Hourglass when Destan falls into his lap. And the Hassassins are working for Ben Kingsley's character, apparently assisting him even to the death. So why, then, does Mr. Ursurping King's brother have to tunnel down to the Hourglass and then go to it alone in the little elevator, when to all appearances he should have been able to take the same secret tunnels that got the Hassassin there?
but nothing seriously audience-insulting on the level of, say, "saving the world from destruction can be put aside while we try to prevent my parents from knowing of the existence of the twenty-foot-tall robots."
I'm willing to buy Jake Gyllenhall as an action hero, and I appreciated that the action scenes generally had a sense of physical reality and momentum that's sometimes woefully absent from CGI-heavy action fare. The plot wasn't a masterpiece, but it drove the action forward without becoming little more than something to hang an action scene on every x number of minutes (hello, Wolverine.)
So in short, if you want people to take video game licenses seriously, by all means, go see PoP. Box office longevity is as good a sign as high first weekend gross; we can still make this happen.
I saw it over the weekend and is was certainly entertaining. The parkor was great, that one fat guy was hilarious and the story was decent. On the other hand, the fights scenes were poorly edited and there were way too many annoying one-liners between the Prince & Princess. All in all, it was a good video game adaptation but when you're working with the material the Prince of Persia game gave, it's not too hard to make a good movie out of it.
It was an alright movie, good enough to see in the cinema anyway. I hope hoping this movie would start the ball rolling and make people more interested investing in game films, but I'm guessing that between the dissapointing box office figures and the lukewarm reviews that won't happen.
i wouldn't say the other Shreks weren't good, its just they aren't getting any better than the first.
OT: i need to see PoP movie at somepoint, but i don't know who to go with. the only friend i have who played Prince of Persia is the worst person to go to a cinema with... just obnoxious, rude and a bit of a tosser to his friends when others are around... even if he doesn't know them >.> thinking on it, why's he my friend?
Pity. It wasn't great, but it was pretty good. It was far more suited to grossing tremendous wads of cash than a certain saga featuring shirtless werewolves tickling each other.
When I say I'm on Team Jake, I mean "Manlychest" Gyllenhaal, bitches.
Awww man... Its actually a fairly good movie. Doesnt deserve this. Then again its better than most other shit now, so it will probably get a good amount of money... eventually.
I agree with this. Granted I'm not a big follower of the original games so I couldn't comment on whether it was good from a source material standpoint but as a movie in and of itself it was still fun to watch and I see no reason as to why it's getting such a bad pull at the box office.

True, but we nearly always hear of various games to films being thought of, such as halo for one example. The problem is, very few of them make it out of the concept stage let alone the other problems that come to the game to film terrority.

Hrmm...not really no...not since early college anyway, when I still had a car and lots of free time on weekends. If the reviews were better I probably would for this one though.

But we are talking about video games to movie adaptations not the other way around. It's easy for game developers to make a good game out of a movie, yet most of the time they just don't try and we get crap like the Iron Man games (¬_¬).
I absolutely hated this movie, and to be honest, I'm glad it didn't do well.
A lot of the actors delivered their lines on the same level as high school plays, to the point it was cringeworthy.
I really wanted this movie to be good, I really did, but it was a huge letdown.
I was starting to think I was losing my mind. Everyone keeps telling me this isn't a bad movie, but come on. I think it's just wishful thinking. Jake does a great job, but it feels like they assume if you're watching the movie you played the game and have Jake jump to these massive conclusions with very small clues. Loved the first 30 minutes of it, but nothing ever happens after that.
