I enjoy wrestling in many of the same ways I enjoy books and movies. I get to suspend my belief in things like physics and actions having consequences other than a match that same night. I also like to poke fun at it; the story lines, overacting and larger-than-life personas(accompanied by larger-than-life finishing moves).

Hell, I even persuaded the R.A.s here at the dorms to make an event out of Wrestlmania 24 my first year in college. And even people who hated wrestling had a blast!

Ok, I'm a huge wrestling fan and I've noticed that the wrestling and gaming communities don't overlap very much. My question is this, are any of you wrestling fans? If so, what do you like about it? If not, do you dislike it or are you just not interested?
but to the topic i still watch on and off just watch my boi Randy Orton cause I like his style and persona in the ring, but it was best in the 90's
I can't believe he's turning face, it's amazing and hilarious at the same time.

Ive been pretty much every type of fan of it. At first i thought it was ok. I grew to become a big fan of it. Then I went on too other things. Then i began to hate it, like insult people who like it hate it. Now i just co-exist with it. I dont like it, i dont hate it. Its like when you walk down the street and walk by someone youve never seen before and you both knod at eachother. We just co-exist.

But the games are better. Me and my friend ( who also used to love it, but now just doesnt care either ) occasionally rent the new game and just go Ape shit on eachother. The games can be pretty fun if you act nothing like wrestling is and just viciously pound eachother.

That being said. I can tolerate wrestling. But the cockiness that seems intertwind in it. I know its fake. But the fact that it will periodically do what i call a self-jerk and have the wrestlers or other characters just stand in the ring and talk about how great they are. Its like if in the middle of Star Wars episode IV, Han Solo stoped shooting storm troopers and just ran around the deathstar calling all the troopers stupid insults and saying how great he is. Gets annoying. JUST FIGHT !

TNA is a joke though.

Personally, I enjoy TNA for the hardcore matches and storylines but sometimes they have a bit too much talking for my tastes, and to few matches. So, yeah for the last little while I've been a wrestling fan but unfortunately I'm to young to remember the attitude era the other fans speak so fondly of.

I really wish I could argue with anything you just said, but there's no arguing with the truth. Although watching Han Solo chasing around Darth Vader calling him a tosser would be the most hilarious thing ever.

Yeah, I missed out on the AA too. :( although TNA from a few years ago was about the same quality. TNA has stage fright. When they were slightly less well known they had some matches that would make WWE curl into a ball and cry. Then they got mainstream exposure and became a joke.

Now this is my kind of thread!! I'm a huge WWE fan, I was at the TV tapings in London a couple of weeks ago... I got so into it I've booked tickets for the November tour too, I just love the atmosphere and although it might not be as what it was anymore I still appreciate the well told stories generally hating John Cena!

I'm more of an MMA/UFC fan. Wrestling is just too flashy. I want fighting, not entertainment. Wow I sound sadistic.
I'm with you on this one. Wrestling to me is just body builders in weird, too-tight costumes grunting at each other. MMA, for me at least, is vastly more entertaining.

On a slightly related note, how can people watch boxing when UFC/MMA exists?

I'm not so much, but I'd encourage you to check out www.spoonyexperiment.com. Spoony's an avid gamer AND, as it turns out, an avid wrestling fan, and he's so passionate about it that he actually makes me feel interested and want to do some research. He's got a bunch of rants about TNA Impact, they're a blast to listen to.

I would almost consider it worthwhile, since it does seem kind of entertaining. I hate the incredibly shortsighted and overdramatic announcers they seem to employ, though.

To you MMA fans out there, Wrestling may just be sweaty men in tight clothes but by the same token MMA is just sweaty men in their underwear. Criticizing one for that reason and liking the other one just reeks of hypocrisy.

I'd be careful with that. Some people would call that advertising.

EDIT: Oh dang, sorry about the doublepost

I always found the announcers annoying, even when i loved wrestling. The King would manage to make any moment with any of the divas awkward. Even the most slightly sexy thing would happen and the King would somehow make me almost pass out from the sudden massive amount of blood flowing back to my brain with his comments. PUPPIES !!!

Huh. Hadn't thought of that. :\ You're right, though. Apologies.

I actually wrote a mini-column about how the announcers can ruin good moments in wrestling. Whether sexy moments with the divas, exciting moments like Rock v Austin at WM X7 or heartbreaking moments like HBK's retirement. All of those moments took major hits from annoying announcers.

I am a really big fan of wrestling. I think that some of the wrestlers are among some of the best athletes around. Most of the time they don't get the recognition they deserve though because before the match the outcome is already decided. But give me a break, it is entertainment just like any other tv show, which surprise surprise is fictional. However the bumps the wrestlers take are very real. Some of the injuries I have seen during matches were ridiculous, one instance that comes to mind is Undertaker vs. Mankind Hell in a Cell. That match messed up Mick Foley for life. And that is what I love about it. The absolute carnage you can see. I do enjoy seeing the occasional UFC/MMA fight but unless someone is getting pummeled like crazy I mostly see 2 guys in a sweaty hug on the floor.

Bottom line, suspend your disbelief for 2 hours and pro wrestling can be a very entertaining program to watch. If you don't like it that's one thing but don't make the assumption that it's just fake.
