There is nothing progressive about progressive metal, it is a moronic title for a genre trying to pretend that it has any form of creatvity involved within it.
Well there is nothing true about your statement, its a just a load of ignorant bullshit, when its trying to involve fact in there, but obviously cannot.
How very dare you! Ignorant maybe, bullshit of course, but how dare you even insinuate that I in any way tried to involve facts within my ill judged off the cuff comments!

All i hear is generic detuned guitar chugging in the most generic Melodic Death Style, with soft vocals mixed with poorly executed death growls, i dont even hear the progressive influences.

How is that a fresh breath in the genre, considering that Opeth(And some other bands like Edge of Sanity) has been mixing Death Growls and Soft vocals in their brand of metal since 1995? (They are also actual progressive metal).

If you cant hear it, i dont know what to say to you.

EDIT: also scar symmetry here, appears to be using a conventional song structure, and there is no time signature changes or anything that is in common with progressive metal/rock. Where exactly is the "prog" in this band?
Pretty sure I can tell you are just a hater, the Growls are perfect - absolutely no problems with them, in no way are they poorly executed. If you just listened to Edenspring (which is Melo Death 101) and thought that it sounded anything at all like Scar Symmetry, then like I said I don't know what to tell you.

They are a breath of fresh air in the genre in that they sound way different then regular melo death bands. I mean honestly do you know Melodic Death Metal?

In Flames:

At the Gates:

Blood Stain Child:

Nothing at all like Scar Symmetry. They are bringing in a bit of the PROGRESSIVE part of progressive metal with the brutal, melodic parts of Melo Death. I've listened to a lot of metal for many years - pretty much everything in the genre and I haven't heard anything like Scar Symmetry in Melodic Death Metal.

You are right in that it doesn't bring in the complex time signatures on the level of Meshuggah and Noumenom Phenomenon is 4/4 I think, but they have a lot of songs with odd time signatures (also listen to the dudes solo, nothing at all like conventional shredding of regular Melo Death). Besides complex time signatures aren't the only parts of Prog Metal. All I said was they borrowed a lot from Dream Theater - the technical guitar, the progressiveness (you know clean singing, new age stuff, odd solo's, odd time signatures sometimes), keyboards etc. Honestly if you had Dream Theater play slightly worse and use growls sometimes they would sound a lot like Scar Symmetry which is what the OP was asking about, but you are probably too much of a hater to admit it.

Btw they aren't detuned guitars, they're 7-stringed :p
