1) Do you think its okay that the boyfriend left without saying a word? Ladies, if you read this post would you leave him?
2) Why do you think it's so ingrained in to people to just shun those who smoke(Tobacco and marijuana)?
3) Was anyone else extremely glad to leave high school after a night like that?
Doesn't sound like that bad a night. Least you didn't die or anything.

1) Firstly, what kinda girl even allows her bf to show up to a prom NOT dressed up? kinda of a wanker if you ask me. Prob left to go stare at himself in a mirror or something.
2) Well, i dunno bought the states but here its pretty normal to smoke (weed) a lot. I find that people who don't smoke pot are the annoying stuck up types any way. I don't agree with smoking cigarettes, but if you want to thats fine, just dont be pissed if i dont wanna stand near you or kiss you or something.
3) Having been to two proms of very different content I can see the good and the bad. The first one (mine) was awful, and basically drunk myself stupid to avoid how stupid it was, which in turn made it kinda amusing. That was made up for by also having a "graduation party" which was way better than the actual prom. We rented an island for a week and went camping and drank ourselves silly, played football (soccer) and went wakeboarding etc). The second (my gfs) was way better, cuz i actually had a date i was into. So pretty much proms can be made or broke by the quality of the date, and how much you've had to drink. I don't think its a dan way to leave highschool. College is way better tho. But damn US drinking laws, damn you to hell. I need rum!

Ugh...flashbacks to being young when I read that. It gets better as you get older, that's all I can really say.

1) He is, and plese stop with the accusation that all americans are that way. He is just as much a jerk here any were else (Except in his retarted mind). In America, the joke isn't funny, partly because it's not fair to the good americans (Who post on this foram), and mostly because there is no England/Australia (That seems to be the main places everyone lives in) joke we can come back with without being labled a jerk, because if Yahtzee made an England/Australia joke we would be the happist beings on earth for finale having a come back. So please, stop with the "America is a jerk" joke. Please. Yes, the girl goes for the pretty/athletic/similar boy.
You've misinterpreted what I said, I meant that here in the UK those actions are unacceptable. But seeing that I don't live in the US I don't know how everyone acts around each other, what is expected of people and therefore I could not make a *fair* assessment of the situation. If I sat here comparing morals to the UK I would have been branded an egotistical anti-American. I was trying to make a neutral assessment.
Thank you for makeing that clear. I did jump the gun and make an accusation that was false, and would like to apologise. I'm sorry.

I tried, I really did, to read the whole thing... but I got about halfway through and my brain rebelled, and my eyes just wouldn't stay focused on the gigantic wall of text...

short version: yes the guys a dick, and lots of women love guys like that (who are rude, selfish, arrogant, fuckwads), even in extreme cases when the guys get nasty and beat them. Sucks? Absolutely. Anything you can do about it? Absolutely NOT. You can't change other people's opinions about their loved ones, no matter how well you argue. It's a waste of time. Don't even bother. It's something they have to arrive at themselves.

Oh, and final point... don't post your woes to the web forum... just sort it out yourself. If everyone did that we'd just have to rename this to livejournal or something...

I think any girl should leave a guy like that.

I don't shun them. For health reasons I'll try and polity influence those I care about to quit.

Ask them.

What does tl;dr mean? I'm serious, I've seen that expression used so many times in my time spent on the interweb and I've never known what it means.

You guys(and gals)are lucky that you had a prom, I didn't have one, I went to an all boys school:(

1. Total idiot, you'd expect her to leave him but it doesn't quite work like that.

2. I mock smoker's in my head, but in the end what right to I have to tell them what to do. Thankfully none of my close friends smoke, so it's not a problem, but if they did I would try and dissuade them. Concerning drugs, I personally would never do them but I don't see the harm in every now and again doing some.

3. Ask me after the 3rd. I'm looking forward, not sure whether to ask anyone yet mainly because of whether I'll actual have much interaction with them on the night.

Now after all that. I have a couple questions.

I know the post may be pretty long and a lot of people may say tl;dr and I'm sure that there are spelling errors as well as grammar errors, but I really don't want to read it and spell/grammar check.
Thank you for your time.
I'm with Wlkn, I haven't the slightest clue what "tl;dr" is supposed to mean. I thought it was a massive typo, lol.

1)No, that was certainly not okay, especially as a supposed boyfriend and not just a bad date. And as far as the jeans and sweater go, my prom had a dress code. It was semi-formal, and if someone had showed up in jeans, they wouldn't be allowed in. This also applied if a girl dressed like a complete skank. Of course, people were forcibly removed from my prom, every year I went, for either fighting, dealing drugs, or showing up drunk. I didn't go to the classiest high school in town.

2) I'm severely asthmatic, so smoke irritates my asthma. I was pretty thankful when the American laws against smoking inside went into effect, to be honest. But if we're standing outside, you've got every right to light one up. I can move if it bothers me. I also sometimes get a bad headache when I'm around smoke, but I don't know why, I only know that it's completely incurable by my line of painkillers. My ex boyfriend has the same problem, headache-wise. So that could be why some people aren't happy when you smoke near them.

3) Let's just say that prom wasn't the only reason I was glad to get out of there. It's a wretched place, full of evil. And stupid people, which is probably worse.

I would also like to know what 'tl;dr' means. Like BlazeTheVampire, I've always been under the assumption that it was some gigantic typo.

I would probably ask him about where he went next time I saw him. (seeing how he left without a word, I doubt she knew he left.) And if he wasn't able to convince me that he didn't leave completely (I assume he would try excuses based on previous actions) I would leave him. But I would probably not go out with him in the first place. Partly because I'm not homosexual, and partly because he's an idiotic fuckwad.

I don't care about smoking in almost all cases, but if the time smoking puts enough smoke into the air to create an air-to-smoke ratio capable of causing my eyes to burn, it's not cool. And I'm totally cool with wacky tobaccy (best name for weed I've ever heard. Ever.) as long is it's not being smoked around me, due to possible complications with the law. I don't care about people smoking it in situations in which my chance of being in legal complications is nil, though.

Never been to prom (tenth grade when school-time returns) so I don't know anything about it really. But because I have no reason to dance and because I doubt I'll be involved with anyone when the time comes around. I might not even go, though, because all the overhyped high school drama. It's incredibly annoying to see people in first-to-tenth graders crying about their lost 'love.' Yes, even people in first and up grades ddo crap like this around here now. They're all trying to be like their older sisters or be like the popular skank in the middle or high schools.

1) I don't know enough about their situation to make a judgment on that.
2) I hate the smell of cigarettes. It reminds me of my dead grandmother, and my brother's impending death, as well as irritating my lungs. Also, if you've had troubles smoking in your past, your friends are probably worried about you doing it again.
3) I can't answer this one, because I go to pretty much the best school ever. (Alas, too small for prom.)

Seems from your story that you were kind of a jerk to your date. Did you dance with her at all?

I can't find the clip of it on YouTube, So i'll have to recite:

Boy #1 - "Dude, let me tell you something, there is nothing that will ever happen in the rest of our lives that's as important as what's going on right here, right now, in high school by these lockers"

Boy#2 = "I've got so many problems"

Boy#1 = Hey, nothing that can't be fixed by staring at a lake"

*insert lake scene*

Song - "Hiiiiigh schoool, it's such a serious thing. These problems maaatteeeerrrrrr"
Hahaha, good stuff.

Oh yeah, the questions.

1) No, not cool of the boyfriend. But judging by your descriptions of the two, I expect a long unhappy marriage between them.

2) Don't smoke, got no problem with smokers, just so long as they ain't rudely blowing it in my face.

3) None of my friends went to prom, so I didn't either, and even if they had gone, it sounded so lame that I probably would have blown my own brains out before spending 5 minutes in there. BUT, I wasn't that glad that highschool was ending, cause despite everything it was good times with friends.

Bottom line, if you're positive you'll remember the good times, if you're negative you'll remember the bad. Sounds like you could use some positive thinking dude. Hey, go visit the "favorite quotes" thread, there's some good stuff there.

Besides, you shouldn't feel so bad, your prom wasn't THAT bad. Just because it wasn't something out of... uh... {insert whatever teen drama bullshit kids are watching these days...} with a pool party and hot bikini chicks everywhere, doesn't mean it had no good points.

Anyways, from your story, it sounds like your attitude was one of not wanting to be there in the first place, so of course you weren't gonna have fun.

Use paragraphs, spell correctly, punctuate responsibly. Do these things in all of your posts or leave. No offense. Now:

1) It is not right to just leave without saying, but I don't think that should call for instant break-up. Unless it's, like, the third time or something.

2) Smokers are shunned for a bloody good reason. I don't care what foul chemicals you pump into your body, but people don't like smokers because smoke is foul stuff. It lingers. That's the main reason.

3) I've yet to leave high school, and I've yet to have a night like that. I have no desire whatsoever to attend school dances. There's such a small cluster of young women at my school that I actually find attractive, I hate pop music, I don't like sub-par Chinese food, I don't like dancing, what have you, take your pick.

Paragraphs are your friends. That being said, welcome to the forums.

On your post, everything will be clearer in the light of age. Seriously, give it two or three years and all this will seem really stupid, and give it five years and you won't even remember it (you smoke pot, no?)

Sorry, what?
Yeah, I had no idea what he was saying either?

Overall, things get better when school ends and people grow up. You don't talk or see the people that annoy you anymore, and hang around the people you like.
