Someone brings up exactly this point in the film "Sex: The Annabel Chong Story", a film that I highly recommend to anyone reading this thread who is interested in these issues. Basically, it's the cameras that change the situation from an illegal act (prostitution) into a legal act (making a film). I wonder how it works in the city where I live, where prostitution is legal but making a pornographic film is not...aseelt said:
Allow me to clarify, I love the sight of a nude woman as much as the next guy, but what I don't enjoy is the sight of a nude woman getting it one with some other guy. That is what I find disgusting. Prostitutes are murdered all the time. For the sake of the girls lost it shouldn't be a heavy crime, most prostitutes are either drug addicts or sex-slaves (look it up it's terrible), at least just send them to rehab and give them some support to get back on their feet. Prostitution should be legal though would prevent the deaths and pimps because the girls can be open about it.

Right here is the reason it should be legal. Testing would significantly cut down on the transmission of diseases, and nobody can argue that eliminating the abuse inherent as a part of the profession would be a bad thing.Blatherscythe said:

A lot of (US?) laws make no sense in the first place. Like the one that makes it illegal to pick up hitchhikers in some states. If we truly need such laws to protect ourselves from our own stupidity I'd say our race has really gone down the drain.
That said, I accept the possibility that there's an unforeseen reason for those rules. Barring exceptional situations as signs near roads near prisons telling people not to give anyone a ride.
