protesting DRM?

I know one of the most popular ways to protest a game with heavy DRM is people refuse to buy it and pirate it. But DRM is going to be pretty much the publisher's decision, and not buying the game hurts the developers more. If it's a good game, I'd much rather buy it and show my support to the studio.

But if I buy it, I'm also saying that I don't mind games with annoying DRM.

I can't actually think of a solution to this one, except perhaps making myself a harder sell on games. I'll still get ME2, but because of that, I'll be less likely to buy other games from EA.

Any other thoughts on this?

Easy, if you don't like the DRM, don't buy the game.

Don't pirate it because that tells the publisher that their DRM needs to be stronger, because they're too dumb and greedy to associate the DRM with the desire to pirate in the first place.

Don't buy the game, becaase that tells the publisher you're too dumb to know what the DRM is doing or simply don't care, either way they will equate their crap with success and use it more.

DRM: Digital Rights Movement,
The act of limiting the amount of downloads one can get out of a single software purchase.

OT: It is a conundrum, much like the removal of LAN functionality in Starcraft 2.

Depends on the game, if it's the type of DRM that actually limits the number of times I can download/reinstall the game, I won't touch the game because of that.

Anything else, not all the important. Although I'm starting to take issue with games that require me to install Steam, and for Steam to be running in order to play them game, even if I bought it at retail. I'll pirate those out of spite.

You, sir, are welcome.

Indeed, removal of LAN is a signal of dark times approaching.

The fires of gaming are going out. We shall not see them lit again in our life time!
