10/10!?
I know it's your opinion and all, but There seriously are Some issues here. For starters, Alex Climbs (Notice I said Climbs, not Runs up buildings, because that is great for the most part) horribly. Trying to climb up anything that is round and less than 10 Feet Width Wise is a nightmare. Consuming people is fun, but the enemy doesen't react correctly to a grunt sprinting up a building at 30 mph.

And this is a minor issue, but the Graphics are less than Stellar. Animations are nice, but the city looks pretty bad.

Having spent over 15 Hours with the game, Believe me when I say that I know what I'm talking about.

That said, It was a Well written review, keep it up ;)

I preordered it, and got a fautly disc... traded it today, and started playing: I was blown away. Every word this man speaks is true, this game is simply fun. Now excuse me while I disguise as an old man and chuck sedans off of a skyscraper.

Thats the thing! Who cares if the graphics aren't awesome, if the gameplay can be a little screwy. It looks like a shit load of fun, and isn't that why were are playing games in the first place?

Come to Poland. You get the game on 12.06.09. I get it almost two weeks later.
its released the 13th on steam :'( but i feel with you mate
Yeah, but on Steam it costs 50 EUR.

If I wait till 26.06.09, I get it for about 30 EUR. Okay, 25.
It's out now on Impulse, check it out.
You mean ImpulseDriven? No thanks, it costs almost as much as English version in Poland, which would come out on 12.06.09 anyway. I won't overpay for something I can wait 2 weeks for.

It may not be the most important part, but eye candy can still give way to a more enjoyable experience. It should be taken into consideration if the graphics are considerably poor, to the point where character models look ugly, and the scenery looks to unpleasant to even want to play in.

I have seen almost every gameplay video, official and directly from players of the game... I was not bothered by how the game looked.

I don't know why people have this hangup, just fuckin' complaining about graphics.

It could be 8 bit and have no voice acting and I'd still probably enjoy chucking cars at people whilst disguised as a 20 something secretary and then cleaving people in half.

I know that really bad graphics make the game unplayable but the graphics aren't that bad. Looking at the gameplay, do you think

A) That looks extremely fun to play
or
B) The graphics are not as good as other games

Because I think A)

You really don't go into much detail and I have my doubts over how much of the game you actually played - to me it seems you have rushed a review as soon as possible in order to gain replies.
Agreed. There could definitely be more info on parts other than just the core gameplay. You also dont seem to hit up on the flaws on this game, which yes, there are a plenty.
What are they? Having played Prototype for a good few hours, (not finished, but a decent way in) I don't have any complaints yet.

To the OP: nice review, finally someone who doesn't gripe over tiny things that others would not notice. :)

EDIT: ok read up a bit, yes climbing as a ***** if you want to get the exploration token on say the Empire State building, BUT there are ways around it, like; upgrade your jump to the max, or hop in a chopper.

1. Story is boring
2. Graphics are bland
3. Voice acting is horrendous
4. Little variety in side missions (for a sandbox game too)
5. Mission structure is boring, and could use more incorporation of the powers. Maybe this the part of me that talking that loves Red Faction Guerilla's side/main missions, but Prototype could have done so much more with its awesome abilities.
6. Controls need work (try getting gold in a racing time trial).
7. Targeting system is balls, especially when i need it to work in fast paced fights. One particular incident was when I was on a roof surrounded by choppers, and I needed to pick up some vents to throw. Sure enough, the game decides to target the soldiers first over the helicopters, forcing me to cycle through which target I wanted, until I found the chopper, by which time I had already died. Heres a better idea, let me free aim then lock on my enemies.

These are off the top of my head. You may think they are little problems, but combine them altogether and you have a game that has issues. I still had a good amount of fun with the game, but it is FAR from perfect.

I just blew through Prototype, just finished up something like five minutes ago. I loved the game, there are a few ticks I have with it but they are easily shoved under the rest of the game's shining points.

My only real problem with the game can be summed up below.

WARNING, Major spoiler alert, only read it if you have beaten the game or never intend to play it (OR don't care about Spoilers)

My issue was with the game's final encounter. The fact that they basically copy-pasted an earlier boss fight and added a single new move and some more health struck me as a slightly lazy way to end a great game. Ever other encounter up to him was fun and interesting in their own way, but that just slightly dampened the experience for me. Call me crazy if you wish.

1. That's personal opinion and that's fair enough, though I disagree. I have been intrigued.
2. They're fine in my opinion. Though I'm on the PS3, maybe they're different on Xbox/PC. (PC i assume would be better)
3. I'd call it above average, and it gets a huge plus for me because there's no Navi-esq character annoying me all the time.
4. There's enough, Glide, Race, Infiltrate, Kill, Kill with specific weapon... I really love the War ones.
5. Ok, there should have been more ways to use the powers, on this I agree.
6. I have gotten gold on every race i have done... Often on my first or second try, again maybe this is because of my controller/console. As I nearly have all the upgrades, I assume I have done most if not all of them.
7. It says it targets the biggest threat, and you can always flick the right control stick to swap targets, and yes if you throw without target lock you should auto hit whatever is in front of you. Personally, I haven't experienced this.

I don't want to seem to be argumentative, these are merely my experiences and opinions. (Also, sorry if I'm wandering off topic)

Now, I haven't finished the game yet (I'm close though), as I like to take a break and stretch my legs every few hours, but I have yet to be bored. I started the game, the first mission hooked me in, showed me the ropes. I played for awhile, and while I played I sat on the edge of my seat every moment. The gameplay is fun, simple as that. Punching a hole through an infected-zombie-mutant never gets old (well, it does, but I try to spice things up). Skyjacking helicopters, blowing up evil buildings with tanks, blowing someone to hell with a grenade launcher while running up a building, etc. If you tried to count all the ways to kill enemies in this game, you'd need a few days.

However, there is also a stealth option (a lacking one, but I've never been a big stealth fan). You can blow the building up, or infiltrate it and and then blow it up. Of course, I don't mind how enemies don't mind superhuman agility when I'm trying to be stealthy, as I don't look for realism in a video game, just continuity. The only people (in my opinion) who are going to try and tear this game in half are the ones who were telling everyone not to buy it because it would suck bollocks, and then were proven wrong. Very, very wrong.

I love this game, I recommend this game, and while it does have flaws, as mentioned by others, they will not make you hate the game. Though in my opinion 10/10 doesn't mean perfect, it simply means that something is pulling everyone else's weight, bringing it all up to 10. And I would agree with that, the gameplay makes up for most of the flaws, bringing it to at least a 9 (not that I believe in numerical values on games). So, buy this game, you'll love it. At times it's like "What if Altair from Assassin's Creed had sci-fi superpowers, and starred in a GTA game that had zombies?"

[PS:I think the controls and graphics are pretty much the same on all consoles (computer graphics vary with the computer of course). I play on the 360, the controls are smooth and the graphics are just between adequate and superb. Though I think the lower-level graphics are a good thing in this game. Most of your fights will be fast and full of explosions, so lower graphics means less chances of any issues.]

[PPS:I like the story, it isn't exactly original in all aspects, but the different pieces of unoriginal combined together with the game's own personal twists make it original. The "Web of Intrigue" feature was really fun for me too, as it allowed me to figure most everything out before the game actually told me all of the main storyline.]

Errboddy's got their opinion, and at least you didn't come off as pissed like many others do. However, I am going to have to note that Alex Mercer's voice acting is quite bad though. Whenever he has conversations with anyone, he seems to use his inner Batman voice, speaking as if there are several ellipsis's in every sentence he speaks. If you also recall the fuel depot/hunter battle, I also remember that one being a situation where I would target soldiers before the hunters, so im not sure if they really did program it to target the biggest threat.

I am currently working my way through the game now. While many of the issues people have said are true I only have a few real problems with the game.
1. The aiming system
2. The running on buildings (sometimes)

But those certainly don't ruin the game for me. I have been telling all my friends to get it, or at least try it out. It is most certainly fun and I don't think it should be missed.
