At least that makes more sense. I don't get how somebody can be "proud" of being a fan of something, or of being from whatever country they are in, unless they have actually contributed something significant to it; like passing a major law that benefits everyone or something.

You all make me laugh, and not in a good way if you can be proud of something such as a belief in no God.

Considering this is what being proud means:

Proud

-adjective
1. feeling pleasure or satisfaction over something regarded as highly honorable or creditable to oneself (often fol. by of, an infinitive, or a clause).
2. having, proceeding from, or showing a high opinion of one's own dignity, importance, or superiority.
3. having or showing self-respect or self-esteem.
4. highly gratifying to the feelings or self-esteem: It was a proud day for him when his son entered college.
5. highly honorable or creditable: a proud achievement.
6. stately, majestic, or magnificent: proud cities.
7. of lofty dignity or distinction: a proud name; proud nobles.
8. Chiefly South Midland and Southern U.S. pleased; happy: I'm proud to meet you.
9. full of vigor and spirit: a proud young stallion.

I am proud of the fact that I enjoy being alive.
I am proud of the fact that all I have ever done has been for me, and me only. I have never done anything for the good of mankind.
I am also proud of how secure I am in being me. I am not ashamed of how I look, what I listen to, what I watch, what I read, what I play... in short, what I like.

Are you then saying that subjectively I can't be proud of being an Atheist?

You also make me laugh, similarly not in a good way. We're proud to believe that theres no higher cause such as God or the Devil or whatever. And people like you, who take the time to go through the online dictionaries to back up your pitiful drivel, have no right to criticize.

Sorry Webster, but you've lost that argument.
What argument? You haven't actually made a point. Although you have proven mine rather well, so thank you.

I prefer to take the time with my responses, you say that like it's a bad thing. Considering you are an atheist I would have thought using logic, in other words, backing up a point with evidence would be high priority to you.

It would illogical for me to claim that you are arrogant and self important if I did not use a definition as a way of making my point, how else would I prove it? Being proud is to have self importance, to have self importance over what you would almost certainly claim as "a logical viewpoint" is pathetic.

It's like me claiming to be proud that I believe in gravity.

I am saying that being an Atheist should mean nothing to you. Being a free thinking person (assuming you are) is fine, but being proud of the belief in no Gods is incredibly arrogant, because the belief achieves nothing.

As I said above, it's like being proud of believing in gravity. What's there to be proud of?

To you a belief in no god seems to achieve nothing but for me it has meaning. Just because you see the statement as pointless and worthless doesn't mean that it is. By your logic believing in a God is also pointless. Being an atheist means a lot to me. To me it is a symbol of freedom in my thinking.

So really, people can be proud of being atheists. Number 2 tells us this. If atheists believe there's no higher power than us, then surely that shows a high opinion of us being the most intelligent lifeforms we're currently aware of.

That makes me proud to be an atheist. And what I mean by that is, I'm proud to be important.

Sorry about that, just thought it was important to finish an argument that doesn't belong in this thread.
