Why did I suddenly get this wierd image of our pancreas' slapping against each other in a high five kind of way? With a wet slapping sound to boot. Other than that insanity, organ donor five all the way!curlycrouton said:Organ-Donor Five!

It has come to my attention that I am proud of many things that I am usually not aware of. My question to you would be, What community are you proud of . For example. I am Proud to be:
*Australian
*PlayStation fan
*Halo fan also* (even though I don't own an Xbox)
*&&&& A member of the ALMIGHTY ESCAPIST COMMUNITY!

At least that makes more sense. I don't get how somebody can be "proud" of being a fan of something, or of being from whatever country they are in, unless they have actually contributed something significant to it; like passing a major law that benefits everyone or something.MaxTheReaper said:I am proud to be who I am.

You all make me laugh, and not in a good way if you can be proud of something such as a belief in no God.inflamessoilwork said:An Atheist
Are you then saying that subjectively I can't be proud of being an Atheist?Machines Are Us said:At least that makes more sense. Considering this is what being proud means:
Proud
-adjective
1. feeling pleasure or satisfaction over something regarded as highly honorable or creditable to oneself (often fol. by of, an infinitive, or a clause).
2. having, proceeding from, or showing a high opinion of one's own dignity, importance, or superiority.
3. having or showing self-respect or self-esteem.
4. highly gratifying to the feelings or self-esteem: It was a proud day for him when his son entered college.
5. highly honorable or creditable: a proud achievement.
6. stately, majestic, or magnificent: proud cities.
7. of lofty dignity or distinction: a proud name; proud nobles.
8. Chiefly South Midland and Southern U.S. pleased; happy: I'm proud to meet you.
9. full of vigor and spirit: a proud young stallion.
What argument? You haven't actually made a point. Although you have proven mine rather well, so thank you.almightywabbit said:You also make me laugh, similarly not in a good way. We're proud to believe that theres no higher cause such as God or the Devil or whatever. And people like you, who take the time to go through the online dictionaries to back up your pitiful drivel, have no right to criticize.Machines Are Us said:You all make me laugh, and not in a good way if you can be proud of something such as a belief in no God.
Sorry Webster, but you've lost that argument.
I am saying that being an Atheist should mean nothing to you. Being a free thinking person (assuming you are) is fine, but being proud of the belief in no Gods is incredibly arrogant, because the belief achieves nothing.Bob_Bobbington said:Are you then saying that subjectively I can't be proud of being an Atheist?
To you a belief in no god seems to achieve nothing but for me it has meaning. Just because you see the statement as pointless and worthless doesn't mean that it is. By your logic believing in a God is also pointless. Being an atheist means a lot to me. To me it is a symbol of freedom in my thinking.Machines Are Us said:I am saying that being an Atheist should mean nothing to you. As I said above, it's like being proud of believing in gravity. What's there to be proud of?
So really, people can be proud of being atheists. Number 2 tells us this. If atheists believe there's no higher power than us, then surely that shows a high opinion of us being the most intelligent lifeforms we're currently aware of.Machines Are Us said:At least that makes more sense.
