Joking aside, it is a fantastic system, so far the best that has come out.

But I do feel your pain, up until the PS2 I was always a gen behind.
Playing FF1 or FF2/4 when everyone I knew was raving about FF7 or FF8.

Shadow of the collosus is my personal favorite.

Although the horse controls will make you break 3+ controllers.

Also, Ratchet and Clank, Sly, Jak, Hitman, and Kingdom Hearts are my top priority games.

Edit: 4 Resident Evil, Battlefront 2, Katamary (Any will do), GTA Collection is fairly cheap.

-Avoid Rule of Rose - even as an Atlus whore that game was pretty mediocre, unless you're into weird loli gothic kind of stuff.
-Most Atlus games are pretty cash on the PS2 and tend to be exclusives - unless they got ported to the PSP.

Here's a quick list, I've got around 400 PS2 games so I'm just doing a quick look and see, not sure if all of them are exclusives:

I liked both for different reasons.

I agree that for a few reasons 2 is better, and has more appeal for anyone who's got no nostalgia, but 1 still has quality gameplay.

I managed to get both quite cheap a couple of times. In fact I plan on re buying 1 on PS2 as I only have it on xbox now and it's not supported on 360.

It's a huge pain in the ass to find, but it gave me years of enjoyment.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam VS. Zeta Gundam. Oh my god! I loved this game so much, mainly because of all the different Mobile Suits you could play as. Hell, you could even play as a jet fighter in multiplayer!
If you can't find that, the first game, Gundam: Federation VS. Zeon. It has less suits but it's still fantastic.
Um, Steambot Chronicles is a really great story driven RPG.
