PS3 controller driver and broken controllers?

One of my PS3 controllers recently broke. At first I thought it was just a dead battery because I hadn't used it in about a month but when I hooked it up to the PS3 via USB cable, nothing. Tried hooking it up to the computer, nothing. Figuring maybe it was completely dead and had to charge for awhile I left it plugged into the computer, an hour or so later still nothing (and a different controller had completely charged from one bar in this time).

I haven't dropped it nor have I spilled any liquid on it. I'm beginning to suspect it may have been damaged by a PC driver for the controller but I don't know if this is even possible. Does anyone know if it is or if it has been documented to happen? The driver I'm using is the latest DS3 Tool version. Also, the last time I was using it was hooked up to the computer, not with the PS3.

Drivers simply interpret data that input devices send to the computer. There is no way, to my knowledge, that using your ps3 controller on your computer could do it any harm.

This.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to plug it to the computer. I did once, trying to charge the controller without having to turn the PS3 on, and it still works *knocks on wood*

Maybe the controller just... you know, broke. I mean, if another controller charged correctly and you can still use it, then the problem isn't the PS3.

Yeah I didn't think it would but I've never really known that much about drivers so I wasn't sure and I didn't want to use my other controller with my PC if there was a chance it'd break too. I just thought it was weird that it just stopped working all of a sudden without some kind of damage.
