Apologies for the somewhat dickish reaction I had, I must admit it did make me chuckle. I just didn't want anyone to kick off another thread about different platforms being better than other platforms, by God that was a bad week for threads here. I'm pretty sure it was followed by a week of paedophile threads too.

Though, the Pedophile threads were actually spread out over the course of about a month or two with the last burst being in one day with about 6 total, which I found fucking hilarious. XD

Sadly, unless minds are changed, we cannot discuss it period. :/

Well, I just bought a 360 not long ago. So maybe Sony's just taking their revenge on me, and the 3.60 was their 'message', "That's for buying a 360!"
At least I didn't wake up with a severed PS3 head in my bed.

But yeah, the update worked fine on my slim, guys. I think it was just a horrible coincidence.

Unfortunatly, it is not just you.

I updated to 3.60 this morning and after the reboot, the yellow light of death showed up.

I have one of the old 80 gig models, but I had updated the HD to 320 gigs last year. No hacks or mods.

Not much choice but to shell out the $200 to MTC for the repair.

I installed it earlier and everything is fine. I have a 250 gig Slim. No issues that I can see. Also may be a noob question, but how do I avoid these essential updates? I really don't feel like upgrading each time it prompts me as soon as I try to enter the store and such...

Well, I have a slim and updated last night. It's not working today at all (same symptoms)... Was searching the inter-webs and came across this thread. So I thought I would add my situation. I am beyond pissed. Can't we hold Sony responsible for this???

My fiancée' updated my PS3 to 3.60 while I was out of the house and it bricked as well. It seemed fishy but I couldn't find a good instance of this happening to anyone else so I just thought I was unlucky, until now.

Turns out I have an original 60GB and the only modification I made to the system was installing a bigger HDD (Just like two of the others on this board that had the same problem).

I pulled my system apart, cleaned it, and even applied some high quality thermal paste to the CPUs and the YLOD still persists. I may try swapping out the HDD for the old one to see what happens, but this is NOT just a coincidence.
