Is this the chip that only allows homebrew media? If so, I am dissapointed. However, if it was the chip that allowed pirated games as well, then I understand the measure.
Yeah... compare the amount of homebrew content to the amount of pirated content. It's not hard to see why they act like homebrew doesn't exist.

there isn't really an excuse to pirate console games. You can rent them ffs. PC users don't get that luxury.
In a similar veiin, I would like to point out that any game with a demo has no reason to be pirated... it would be easier to fight pirates if all games had demos.

Eh? Am I missing something here?

Play demo. Like demo. Am an absolute prick who thinks paying for things is for other people. Get pirated game. Play game.

Seems like the way it'd go to me.

Wow. I feel sorry for the Australians. They are being controlled like a bunch of puppets with diamond non cut able strings. With their retarded government there they have next to no freedom whatsoever.

However, universal demos would weaken the "I want to try the game first!" argument considerably.

Like banning something in Australia is hard. All you have to do is say the word and they'll ban all motorized traffic if they feel like it.

Good job Sony, you made the thing illegal. As we all know, making things illegal always has a habit of stopping them just like illegality stopped piracy, drugs and underaged drinking and smoking.

Under normal means I'd be glad this happened, I don't actively like piracy but games in Australia are fucking retarded expensive, upwards of $80USD expensive.

It's win-loss for me, on one hand I'm happy piracy is being fought, on the other hand it just shows that companies don't look at how stupid the prices are here.

Because pirates care about breaking two laws instead of one?
Because pirates aren't millionaires and piracy is the same as theft which means courts will make offenders pay through the nose. Remember, a rapist will get 2 years in prison, but someone who embezzles money will get 10. Such is the irony of our justice system..

piracy is not theft, its piracy :p

I think the Australian and U.S. Governments would heartily disagree with you. Just because the Canadian Government does agree does not make it any less true.

Also, by that logic, it's counterfeiting, which is still illegal. And the Canadian Government heartily disagrees with that, I assure you.
