Sales increases following a price cut usually only last a few weeks apparently. The new design may help it appear a more attractive purchase in the long term though, so we'll have to wait to see how successful Sony's strategy is.
You don't need to sell me on the PS2. I loved that little black box. And there is no way that any of the next gen consoles will be competing with it's sales (well the Wii might be a contender).Jumplion said:Hey, the PS2's a damn fine console It depends on which months your looking at, the PS3 has sold more than the PS2 at times, but overall hell no it hasn't outsold the Ps2squid5580 said:I was thinking maybe they might include the handhelds. How sad would it be if you are right and it just outsold the PS2. 3 years after launch it finally outsells the last gen console.
Well if sony's 10 year plan goes ahead, the PS3 could feasibly sell more than the wii and 360, if they stick to the typical 5 year cycle. I dunno though; it's certainly sold enough to not be a complete failure (having surpassed the sales figures of the original xbox and gamecube) but due to the ps3's high-end nature coupled with the current financial climate, i do agree that its pretty impossible for them to win purely on sales.Sparrow said:Not suprising.
However, they're far to late too the game to win the console war. And this comes from a non-fanboy of anything and someone who is actually going to buy a Slim himself.
Sparrow said:I think that's your answer right there.VanityGirl said:Wait.. that just put the PS3 in third place? What was in 3rd place before?
And they'd better get to selling anyway, the PS3 itself has not really MADE money for Sony, the PS2's been carrying the PS3's fat dead weight.
I'd guess the PS3 just beat the PS2.
"A slim model would sell well?"..."A price reduction would be favorable for consumers?"...Its times like these I can't help but wonder why these men wield such power in the video game industry...nilcypher said:Andrew House, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, gave this statement: "I think what I've heard anecdotally is that this is the point people were waiting for - a redesigned model and, in Euros, a significant price reduction. That's people's cue to jump into the business."
HAHAHA...you know it was probably just a peak for one day of sales out of the whole week...but still....could you imagine if PS3's sold at 1500% for the rest of the year? They could buy the industry...Hardcore_gamer said:I wander how long this will last though, this could just be something temporary. Or it might not, i don't know.
The day they release God of War 3 and bundle it with the PS3 is probably the day I buy it...ChromeAlchemist said:Not me, when I eventually get one it'll be the phat, I like my stuff glossy, and it'll go with my glossy black Wii. Plus it'll be cheaper because I'll probably end up buying it used.
I said I'd buy it when heavy Rain comes out...but with the games coming out on the other two platforms I own that I want, It's going to have to be after Heavy Rain comes out, probably Q3 2010 and beyond.hansari said:The day they release God of War 3 and bundle it with the PS3 is probably the day I buy it...
I bet that that's a bit misleading. If I remember correctly, Wii makes a tiny fraction of a profit from selling the Wii, and 360 and PS3 LOSE money when they sell a system. All the profit is in selling the games. In my experience, Wii owners have very few games for the Wii, and there doesn't look to be a change to that trend anytime soon. Meanwhile PS3 is slowly building for itself a respectable library. I think that unless Wii does something serious, PS3 is going to topple Wii.ChromeAlchemist said:I said I'd buy it when heavy Rain comes out...but with the games coming out on the other two platforms I own that I want, It's going to have to be after Heavy Rain comes out, probably Q3 2010 and beyond.hansari said:The day they release God of War 3 and bundle it with the PS3 is probably the day I buy it...
And here's something to think about. I believe I saw someone work out that in order for the PS3 to pass the Wii, the Wii would have to come to a dead stop, and the PS3 would have to sell the way it is now for a year and a half. I'll search and see if I can find it.
Oh yea, thats another good one that leaves the mouth watering...ChromeAlchemist said:I said I'd buy it when heavy Rain comes out...but with the games coming out on the other two platforms I own that I want, It's going to have to be after Heavy Rain comes out, probably Q3 2010 and beyond.
I think I read on another article that selling games on XBLA meant paying 30% of profits to Microsoft.Xanadu84 said:I bet that that's a bit misleading.
