So yeah. My thoughts on the subject after having used both Xbox Live and PSN extensively is that Xbox Live is vastly superior to PSN. Trying to play Red Dead Redemption on PS3 last year was when I decided that RDR would be the last multiplatform game with mulitplayer I would buy for PS3 until Sony gets its act together and actually improves PSN instead of just throwing nonsense like PS+ at us.
Red Dead Redemption had problems? I've only ever not been able to get on PSN one time when I wanted to play RDR and every other time it's been lag and disconnection free.

Its mostly down to how much people like to argue over things.

As it stands now, the two are pretty equal.

However, as far as either side is concerned, they were always superior.

Maybe because third party developers have started leaning to one side or another more so than previous generations the Super NES and the Sega Genesis rally had there bigger non first party games be exclusive (and or have delays on one systems version if it wasn't like Disney's Aladdin.) With groups like Infinity Ward and Rockstar releasing content for both systems but at a consistent delay for one (Regardless of reason.)It puts in a seed of we think this service is better than the other.

(Plus every company ever is out to make money[If not always to keep it for themselves.])

Besides it's not the only place to find unexplainable conflicts McDonalds and Burger King do it too.

Coke and Pepsi as well.

Nothing. From what I can tell both console are on equal footing.

Don't get me started on exclusive games, because exclusive games are few and far between. Hence, that is a moot point.

So in actuality they are both more or less the same.

I don't think either console is better. I own both a PS3 and an Xbox so I am on the same level with both. From what I can tell though, most fanboys like to make the others think that they wasted their money while at the same time, making their purchase seem justified. I personally play my PS3 more but that is just because it has more genres that I like.

Bit of backstory: around my school, gaming is a big topic among me and the people i know, and a big thing that comes up a lot is the consoles themselves. I know that there is always the PC vs console thing (which seems stupid for me. i use PC for multiplayer games and console for single player games, it works pretty well) but what i dont get is why it seems that people beleive that 360 blows the PS3 out of the water. They are very equivalent consoles that only differ in minor things like a slightly superior multiplayer experience (which you pay for) or a blu ray player.

I personally have a PS3, wii, and a gaming PC, because it works well for me, but i constantly hear things from jerks i know about how much the 360 is better and how i am retarded for preferring ps3. I just dont get it.
PS: i had a 360 before, but the disc drive got screwed over within 3 months (all discs gave me the message that the disc could not be read, even with brand new games!)
Because most children can really only afford one or two consoles, so if they choose wrong, and have an "inferior" product, they get buyer's remorse, and then have to justify their choices.

If you're an ADULT, like me, and have disposable income, then you can just buy all the consoles that come out, and then sit back and laugh at people who bother trying to make arguments about one console being better than another.

And yes, it ALWAYS feels good to belittle console fanboys. ALWAYS.

See the evolution thread, really.

Things genetically programmed to look after their own tend to have move close relatives three generations down and therefore do better. It doesn't improve your chances of having grandchildren to tend to your nephews and neices, but the chances of a particular gene making it a thousand generations down the line are improved by that gene causing animals to look after their own children first, then their siblings' children, then their cousins' children, then the children of other members of their species, then those of other, similar species. The tendency to want the best for your own kids and the tendency to be nice to baby anything aren't instincts literally "touched in" by some divine Lewis Carroll. They're evolved traits.

For fairly obvious reasons, an aversion to diseased specimens has also evolved.

Combine the two and you have a really deep-rooted tendency to favour your own and dislike outsiders. Watch any racist shitbag at a mostly-{insert race here} school recruiting others to pick on the different kid, or any other shitbag at any school recruiting others to pick on the different kid, and you're watching the desire to be part of the big strong group of healthy and accepted individuals in action. Then do me a favour and slap the bastard with a cricket bat until he learns some manners or stops breathing. Either's good.

The Xbox/PS thing is just that. It's just football teams. It's just a desire to be part of the stronger, better group.

It's got the same basic cause as sickle-cell anaemia, but lacks a certain dignity.

You mentioned you're in school, so that excuses you from the biggest console war of all time, Sega Vs. Nintendo. If you think it's bad now, you might not even continue gaming if you heard some of the stuff fanboys were saying back in the 16-bit days. You were a fag if you had a SNES because all it had was that "Mario and Fairy shit" or you were an idiot because you had a Sega that only has the "Press right to win Sonic games".

It was even worse when it came to multi console releases. Mortal Kombat was made into a kids game to some because Nintendo said "no blood". Street Fighter 2 sounded like shit on the Genesis compared to the SNES sound chip. Both of those are worth pointing out in relation to the games, but the fanboys took it to a whole other level. I seriously saw fights break out between Sega and Nintendo fans with people ending up in the hospital over it.

And what caused all this? Some funny commercials both companies made to poke fun at the competition.

Most people that are part of the new "console wars" are in it because they only have access to one, maybe two of the three and feel they need to protect the brands name because they see it as an extension of their self worth. The good thing is that with incomes adjusted to todays dollars, people can afford more than one, hell, all three (Wii, 360 & PS3) combined right now can be had for less than the two 16-bit systems when they came out figuring average incomes now to those of 1990-91.

The ones you need to watch out for though are the Nintendo fanboys. They have gone so long without anything worthwhile to play they are seething in rage and ready to draw blood if you mention anything that is out or coming out for the PS3 or 360, mention that the 3DS library sucks right now or say Skyward Sword will probably be delayed lol

There are always going to be arguements over trivial things. This is just the phase we live through now, along with the PC vs console arguments and various other things. Eventually we'll shed the need for physical entertainment and start arguing over which energy level of the ether is best to hang out in. As long as we all respect each others opinion and don't get hoity toity about it then I'm sure we can pass through this as painlessly as possible.

Or alternatively thank the respective companies for the size of the PS3, the weight of the 360 controller and the proven effectiveness of wiimotes against TVs so that if we do decide to settle this with a fight to the death we'll all be appropriately armed.

One of the more stupid arguments coming from 360 players, is that "The PS3 just isn't fun. When I go online I don't feel like I can communicate with anyone." This argument gets me angry, because when they say this, they do not even specify what they mean. Okay if they said something like "Oh I really like the party chat feature, and the PS3 doesn't have it." then it wouldn't be so bad, but when you make an argument with no basis that gets me angry. As for PS3 arguments I hate, is that PSN is free. While I actually do agree PSN and XBL are basically equivalent, people on PS3 will ONLY use that argument in an already stupid discussion.

It is a matter of preference. I think the three main factors that affect it most are library, controller, and what previous generation system you had. If you had an Xbox, you were obviously going to buy an Xbox 360, so therefore you prefer it. The library can make or break a system (although most big ticket games are cross platform nowadays.) The controller is also a surprisingly big factor. I personally hate the 360 controller (again, most likely because I have always had Playstation so the feel of that controller is just engraved in my muscle memory), but some people on 360 swear that the PS3 will break in half the second they pick it up. I will throw in my own thoughts on this from personal experience. The PS3 controller is basically indestructible regarding anything you could do to it while gaming lol. A friend of mine abuses his, as in throws it across the room on a daily basis and hits it on the wooden arm of his chair every day. It still largely functions with the exception of a bit of a sticky left analog stick, which is probably related to something that got into the controller itself.

I think the argument between any console is stupid, PS3 v 360 v PC. Just play what you have and stop bitching, because the only purpose of the argument is so that one side can finally feel like they won, and say that they spent their 300$ on a better product.

Hang on, just let me grab my special megaphone...

[HEADING=1]PEOPLE ARE DICKS!!![/HEADING]

The console wars boil down to people using their technology to say they're better than other people.
Why don't we just go outside and hit eachother with sticks? It'd be a lot faster.

Because many people can't see that everything has its advantages and disadvantages. For example:

Xbox 360:
+Multi-platform titles run the smoothest
+Cross-game chat
+Early DLC
+Everyone has a mic
+Doesn't put out much heat
+Bunch of subjective stuff

-$60 per year for multi-player, cross-game chat, Netflix, etc.
-Everyone has a mic
-Few exclusives
-Netflix playback is jittery
-Hardware is pretty dated
-Loud fans and disk drive
-Bunch of subjective stuff
-Can't use any headset you want without the purchase of something like an Astro Mixamp

PS3:
+More exclusives
+Exclusive titles look much better than any Xbox 360 exclusive
+Blu-ray player built-in
+Netflix playback is perfect
+Quiet fan and disk drive
+Can use any bluetooth or USB headset for communication
+Internet Browser built-in
+Hardware is more up-to-date
+Bunch of subjective stuff

-Multi-platform titles generally look pretty bad
-No cross-game chat of any kind
-DLC is released at least a month later
-Bunch of subjective stuff

Each one has their advantages and disadvantages. I own all three current generation systems and a PC, so I believe I am fully qualified to say what I have said here.
You are virtually the first person I have ever seen to put "Everyone has a mic" as a negative. Kudos to you sir. Everyone always claims that it's so boring to go on PS3 because no on has a mic. And yet every time you go on 360 it is a battle over who is the biggest fag and who has the largest penis. Well done.

Honestly I think it comes down to personal experience and just what the person preffers. I started out on xbox original and stayed there for a long time, PS was my multiplayer (as much as diablo can offer on PS2) then onto PS3. I had heat issues my network wouldnt connect the disk drive shat itself and I eventually just started using it to brick up my mates car. Now I'm xbox all the way, I dont hate ps3 players nor do I feel the need to "convert" them. Gaming is a religion almost just people are too blind or too stupid to understand we're all after the same thing.

There was a Zero Punctuation where he explained something like it. He said something along the lines of saying that nobody wants to think that they got the wrong console so they defend it as much as they can.

I think it all comes down to Viva Pinata, I mean if the console I had purchased didn't have it I don't know what i'd do with myself. It's not a world I would want to live in I can tell you that much.
