I was really hoping Microsoft would eat it hard this generation, at least for a while... but it turns out that people are far more fickle than I originally thought.
90% of my coworkers were die-hard Xbox fans (even the literally the ONLY game they play is Call of Duty) and had opted to switch to PS4 because of all the DRM bullshit of the Xbone, but as soon as Microsoft said "oops our bad" they went crawling right back.
Sony REALLY fucked up with the PS3, apparently, so badly that they'll just never fully recover. I don't understand it, I think the PS3 is a great console, but they let Microsoft get too much of a lead by winning over the hearts of casual gamers early in the game. Now these people will blindly follow the trend - and if the Xbone is getting bad press, they won't buy it. Unfortunately, now it's getting good press, and it's likely all over for Sony. Again.
Maybe free PSN access for 6 months for every new PS4 sold would help win some people over.
Again, and I can see I'm going to have to spend more time repeating myself in this thread. There is only one version of the XBO and 5 versions of the ps4.
Look at the best seller's list of 2013 in Video Games so far:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/2013/videogames/ref=zg_mw_tab_t_bsar
1: PSN $20 card,
2: PS4 Launch Edition.
....
6: XBO
This is vital, because this means that JUST the ps4 launch edition has outsold the XBO's only available version. That's pretty darn significant.
Look at today's list of the top 20, this is the list that the original article used (incorrectly) to make the comment they made. http://www.amazon.com/best-sellers-video-games/zgbs/videogames#1
Sony takes up 5 of the top six spots with a game, PSN money cards, and three PS4 versions. The ps4 controller is currently at 15 while the XBO controller is at 19 which is probably a better indicator of sales than the rank of any individual consoles. In total, the PS4 has 5 ps4 console packages in the top 20. 4,5,6, 13 & 17. 17 is the sold out day one edition and the XBO hasn't even sold out of their only package which is their day one edition.
Honestly, it looks like Sony is mopping things up. We'd have to see actual numbers to know for sure but when all of their peripherals are selling at a faster rate than the XBOs then they're clearly doing better (e.g. PSN $20 card: #3, MS $20/1600 points card: #7, PSN $50 card: #11, MS $50 card: Not on the list, the $9 one is at #18).
Look at this, the most wished for top 20:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/most-wished-for/videogames/ref=zg_bs_tab_t_mw
PS4 is at #1,3, and 19. XBO is at #2. What's more, there are NO other Microsoft items on that list. All ps4 or ps3 and only one Nintendo game (Animal Crossing at #12).
I'm sorry, but any person making the claim that this means it's selling "better" or "faster" is completely unaware of the facts.
