PS5 the "weaker" system has 4k/60fps modes

So I've seen a lot of talk about the specs for the Playstation 5 and how it wont compare to the SeXBox. Which might still hold true, the SeXBox might be the more powerful system.

But Insomniac Games has confirmed that the PERFORMANCE mode for Ps5 will run the next Spider-Man Miles Morales game at 4k/60fps.
Which is crazy right? Performance mode is 4k AND 60fps? What the hell is the non performance mode going to do 1080p/144?

Either way, I think 1080p/60 would have been fine. But you wanna do 4k/60? That's cool too. At this point we are getting to levels in which the average person isn't going to be able to tell. If the SeBXox is more powerful, fine, but will people be able to tell? I think ultimately it wont come down to the hardware, because it never does. Instead, as usual, it's going to come down to the games.

Though this generation the load times might play factors into it as well. It's kind of wild to think of an insanely fast loading time system also giving 4k/60 output. Developers are really going to have to focus on optimization this generation to make their games not look bad.

I don't have a 4K TV, nor plan on getting one anytime soon. Was thanks for the extra options, I guess.

Monkey's paw: You get 4k/60fps, but the graphics are dropped to the lowest settings to make it possible

Im sure, but even the lowest settings of games these days still looks pretty freaking sweet. i don't notice the different much anymore. Maybe I'm just getting old and I can't see so good no mores.

I have a 4K TV, but I bought it for UHD discs and high res pictures, not for 4K video games. It's far too demanding to render, and I'd be disappointed if developers forced that resolution at the cost of performance. 1440p is enough for the more graphically intensive games. Actually, I'm playing The Evil Within 2 at 1080p on my 1440p monitor right, because I want more stable framerates on my ageing GTX 1070, without having to set a lot of options to Low.

I mean, yeah - 4K 60FPS is a great stat to throw around, but games are a lot more than just FPS and resolution. Not to mention that this doesnt mean that it is a locked 60FPS.

Don't get me wrong, here. Im not trying to say "PS5 sux, PC MaStEr RaCe 4eva" or anything, because this is still an impressive stat, but this is literally called "performance mode", so i'd imagine that there are some cutbacks in terms of shadows, lighting, etc - unless 8K is the target for the "graphics" mode, which I very much so doubt.

Still really impressive, though.

Cant wait to see what the Xbox Series X can throw out, especially as you say, this is the weaker of the two consoles.

Not that many people have 4k TVs, and fewer have TVs with refresh rates above 60Hz, so there's unlikely to be much of an appreciable difference in how the games look in the real world, unless one of them is cutting more corners in terms of lighting/AA/Texture Filtering/physics etc to get to that benchmark. That basically leaves game library and quality of life as the deciding factors for value. Again.

Is that the 8GB version? I’d think that game should perform better as it was built on the same engine as DOOM 2016 IIRC. Of course, I don’t have a 1440 monitor anyways. Still rocking my Samsung from about 12yrs ago.

A lot of people have 4K TVs, actually. Cheap ones. Have you gone into a Best Buy recently? They barely sell 1080p TVs anymore.

As appealing as the PS5 is, I feel like this gen I am gonna get an Xbox Series X first.

Just the fact that its backwards compatible with all Xbox Generations is a big sell for me. And it also enhances the older games with performance improvements. So now I can play games like Panzer Dragoon Orta and Conker Live and Reloaded in a higher resolution and better performance.

I don't care too much about these things, just gonna get a ps5 for all the exclusives it will invariably have.

This, plus hopefully it'll run all of my PS4 games out of the box rather than bringing them across two or three at a time like the Xbox One's backwards compatibility. Even if it only covers the PS4, it'll at least mean I was able to skip the Pro.

I mean backwards compatability will be nice, but I'd rather get the system that will have all the new games. Living in the past only goes so far, and I feel like Microsoft is banking on when they used to have good shit for it to be worth all that much.

Yeah and I generally tend to just play old stuff in their original systems unless they have an enhanced remake like FFVIII or something did. That or new modes like online multiplayer for old fighting games in the case of the darkstalkers 3 rerelease.

Finished the fight with camera girl around the generator she kept pausing. TEW was one of my most played games of the generation. 2 is good so far.

Yes, 8 GB. With a Ryzen 5 2600X. A demanding game, considering the low system recommendations.

Recommended:
  • OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 / AMD Ryzen 5 1600X or better
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB / AMD RX 480 8GB or better

Enjoy. I did three playthroughs of EW1 and 6 playthroughs of EW2.

So it turns out that PS5 backwards compatibility is going to be like the Xbox One to the 360, with a few games at the start and more being added over time. Supposedly, 'almost all' of the most 100 popular games by playtime will be playable at launch. Considering how many of those are probably Call of Duty, Call of Duty, Call of Duty, and five versions of Fifa, I'm suddenly a lot less optimistic.

Might wait for the Pro to get cheaper and grab one of those instead, or at least wait for more concrete details on the list/updates that bring over more games I actually own and want to bring forward.
