Publishers have it wrong

As others have pointed out, used sales really aren't hurting most of 'em all that much.

And if they were, they should not be looking into ways to kill it. They should instead be asking themselves "why are so many people trading the game away?"

I bought Uncharted 1 used. I loved it. I then pre-ordered Uncharted 2 and me and my brother pooled our money to buy the Uncharted 3 collector's edition. And only one of us could play the multiplayer of a game we BOTH BOUGHT because used sales, apparently.

Grr...

And I agree with the whole "we have no obligation to buy from the publisher". Because it's true. We have NO OBLIGATION at all. We buy from who gives us the better deal. Start offering the better deal, and we'll buy from you.

if I want a game then it is worth full price to me, I have no problem paying that

but it just seems thease people are like young kids throwing tantrums because they dont get their way..well TOUGH I dont pirate, I pay for my shit new or used (and I pay very well thankyouverymuch) Ive given plenty of money to the publishers so if they want to start telling me I cant buy used games or I have to jump through hoops and max out my internet cap to play their fucking game then I will simply say

"fuck you....no seriously, fuck you"
The problem is I often want a game but know it's not going to be worth full price, a game with a grindtastic single player that lasts 6 hours is not worth £40 to me.

I like you don't pirate, I ALWAYS pay for the game so I agree that no one should be complaining at me for it. Someone offered the same product cheaper (true the book/box may be damaged but that comes into the the value equation) so where do you think I'll buy it publishers?

I can accept that console games are £40, I think its a rip off but I generally accpet it, as projects go many games released at £40 dont make a killing, you occasionally get the CoD4's or BF2's that do but most only make a few million profit which for a company that size and the length of dev time is moderate at best.

My big complain it when I see high street stores with prices lower than online distribution. Origin is an absolute classic here. The only time when I cannot get a game cheaper than on origin is when origin is the only place it can be got. Now, if we assume the high street store take a idk 40% cut. Shouldnt the game online be 40% cheaper than the high street when I'm buying it directly from the publisher? Someone explain to me why its actually 20% more expensive?

Its when you see things like this you realise just who little they actually care about delivery that I stop caring about them. People like EA who still release new games every year for full price. Its a joke in this day and age, that should be DLC upgrades for like £10.

I preordered Sins Of a Solar Empire: Rebellion yesterday for £18.50. I wouldn't have normally, Id wait for it to come down to like £10, but I got an Email from startdock basically saying, "look anyone who has supported us to this point by buying our games who has either Diplomacy or Trinity on their account can get Rebellion at $10 off if they preorder, we'll even throw in beta access if you want it."

To this I say, thank you stardock, youve made some good games, I wasnt going to buy this but I know the product will be good and your helping me support you at a reasonable price. Keep up the good work, have my money.

If you have a problem with how games are priced, don't buy them. If people refuse to pay a price then the price will come down since the company won't be making money. It's as simple as that. People are willing to pay 60$ so games are 60$ if people weren't willing to pay then the company would change the price or go out of business. I don't give two shits about the opinions of customers or companies on the issues, I only care about the economics and I see people willing to pay thus sustaining the price where it is.

This is what annoys me. I have a certain amount of brand loyalty, but it's been completely shaken. I used to love Bioware, but the whole mess with DA2 just pushed me away, and that's probably a good thing, now I won't have to regret getting The Old Republic, because I stayed well clear of the bandwagon. Bethesda is another example-now, they haven't really screwed up yet, in that they haven't truly annoyed me or made me feel like they are just becoming a company I will grow to hate; Skyrim isn't my game. That's my bad luck, but it's still not a bad game, for all its flaws it's still something I can respect if not love.

FPS games are the area where I have the biggest problems though. They repackage the same essential game with a few nerfs every year (people are crying about noob tubes! MAKE THEM A WHOLE SEPARATE WEAPON WHETHER THAT MAKES SENSE OR NOT! I'm calling you out BF3!). I like BF3 actually, because I've always liked the Battlefield style multiplayer. It's big, it's chaotic, and it's satisfying to run up to a tank with c4 like a maniac. However, I popped in Bad Company 2, and well, the only differences I noticed between it and BF3 were the more varied maps and better frame rates. Oh, and my team mates didn't blind me with their lasers every two minutes while I was busy shooting people. I haven't even applied the xbox HD patch to BF3, because it can slow down in hectic moments as it is-I don't want to know what it will be like with new shiny distracting graphics and more dust everywhere.

I'm even the kind of person who loves to jump on bandwagons for stuff he likes, get me started on guitars and I'll bore you for hours about BC Rich in the 1980's and how 2012 is the year the company goes back to its old quality and takes its spot on the throne again... but game developers have just screwed up so bad I can't even trust that the next thing they put out won't be a pile of crap-a very nice, shiny, HD pile of crap, but one that stinks either way.

I love how people show so little understanding of the market and complain because they think prices are too high. I'm not even going to bother with this one.
