Ever read the original Yu-gi-oh manga? The one with the Death games, and Yami Yugi mind fucking everyone who dared tried messing with him or his friends? No? All you remember is the anime and card game which was seriously toned down so that they could market Yu-gi-oh cards to kids? That's too bad.
This is probably my favourite/most despised moment of a character and/or series being put under the pussification ray. Don't get me wrong, I loved that series to death for 4 years of my life (which was when I also loved Digimon and Pokemon to death too), and amassed a pretty decently sized number of cards. It's just that compared to the awesomeness of the manga (which I read after the fact) the anime is really...repetitive. Also, making a character's strength dependent on their cards is kinda one sided.
So, what are some examples of series being toned down/changing themes that you haven't liked?
EDIT: Oh yeah. The manga version of the rest of the series (after the cards become the focus) is good too, since there's actually some pretty violent stuff. Unlike the stupid localized anime. Stupid 4Kids.
