I mainly had a bowling ally close to my house that was my source of my arcade games. So, my selections were more limited...

I'd say i played Street Fighter the most. And loved it.

X-men arcade was another big hit.

And Mad Dog Mcgee.. Mcgrey?? I forget the name. It was a huge screen, with a light gun, and an old western setting, that used live action actors and stuff. It was pretty neat, i really enjoyed it.

Of course, I do remember blowing alot of money on the original arcade crack... PACMAN! ;-) I am that old. LOL

**edit, and of course, i fogot, but prolly played this game as much or more then all of them. Golden Axe... how did i forget about Golden Axe?! LOL**

I'm only 21, but still play arcade games quite a lot. I guess I'm fortunate to live where I do, as we still have arcades here. From what I've heard, a lot of pretty decent sized cities in North America don't have any arcades left these days. That's fucking brutal.

As for the topic at hand: I've always loved Street Fighter, especially Third Strike. Virtual On is also an old favourite, though it's bloody hard to find anywhere that still has a Virtual On cabinet. I play a lot of shmups, too; Mushihimesama Futari is the best of the best, IMO, but Raiden 1-4 and the Raiden Fighters games are also super fun.
I am in Australia and can't remember one being open since at least the late 90's. The only ones available now are those lame ones in the city with dance and guitar hero games..SO SAD!!

I can't believe noone has mentioned Pinball machines. Im sure a few here would be old enough. I can remember a gymnasium near my house had KISS and Twilight Zone pinball. I can remember pumping alot of change into Twilight Zone. If anyone lives in Sydney, Australia and know anywhere where I can find working, playable pinball machines, please let me know because these things are very rare now. Im actually looking into buying one but thats another thread.

As for the arcades, well when I was growing up the place was called Timezone and it was gaming mecca. The weekend Super-sessions where $10 got you 2 hours of unlimited play on any of the machines were just awesome..I guess consoles catching up to arcade graphics killed them in the end.

Here's how old I am:

I was a total expert at "Time Pilot". I spent so many quarters in that machine in the mid 80's.

Current gen blows that kid's mind!

Unless you were playing it at an arcade with some sort of ghetto homebrew cabinet, that game supported SIX players.
Both four-player and the rarer six-player cabinets existed. As you mentioned, the six-player cabinets had a dedicated position for each X-Man while the four-player version had select screens. Also, the Japanese version had power-ups! If you still enjoy it, go get it for XBL or PSN! =D

The arcade game that ate most of my quarters would probably be the Capcom D&D series, christ I loved those games, to this day i'm still tempted to scream out STICKS TO SNAKES!!! when I play a cleric
You, Sir, can go die in a fire!

My buddies and I still play that on MAME (because of the lack of a real arcade in our town now) and I swear to God this actually happened:

*Red Dragon is obliterating us*
"Alright, let me show you boys how this is done...STICKS TO SNAKES!"
*Casts Sticks to Snakes and kills Red Dragon*
"Fuck. Off."

Yeah. I don't like Sticks to Snakes. Not one bit.

OT: Lucky & Wild, Simpsons Arcade, X-Men Arcade, Time Crisis 2, Sunset Riders, TMNT, D&D, D&D2 and oh so many more...

My favourite arcade game that I played in an actual arcade is probably The King of Dragons (scrolling beater by Capcom).

My favourite arcade game that I play on a home console port is Mushihimesama Futari.

The Simpsons arcade game actually.
I just remember it being there in every leisure park me and my family would stay at when we went on camping holidays back in the 90s.
I liked the simpsons alot more back then and I liked video games. So it just worked.

I would always play as Lisa because the skipping rope looked pretty painful!
