I read it and write it.

It's quite like sifting through a pile of shit in hopes of unearthing a diamond though...

Also, I'm no Shakespeare when it comes to writing, but for fuck's sakes, at least I have proper spelling and grammar skills.

I made some, for fun. Never posted them online. They weren't erotic or anything, and one was about digimon, another about Zelda, and one more about Gears Of War. I was most proud of my Gears of War one which told the story of a human in his fight for survival when the Locusts came down, and the break of a man's sanity during war.

Calumon: It even included the chest high walls. ^^

The only fanfic I've really read was the Phoenix Wright/Elite Beats Agents crossover that got coverage on this site a while ago. I've been meaning to try my hand at writing a Phoenix Wright fanfic for a while, but I haven't gotten around to doing so yet.

Not really fan-fic but I did buy the first Mass Effect and Hellgate: London Books.

Can't really remember anything about either one of them except that one had a recurring error which made it look like someone had tried to use find and replace to correct one error and accidently made a few dozen more. I can't even remember which of the two books it was in.

Didn't bother with any simiar thing after those.

I feel that there's nothing a fan can write that will be better than the fiction written by an actual author. If you want to write your own stories, fine, just don't ride on the back of another writer and try to "improve" what they've already written. Unless it's the Twilight universe, and only if it was J.K Rowling, Stephen King or maybe... Alan Moore... who did the fanfic.

EDIT: I've had trouble differing between "regular" fanfic and slashfiction. So I just avoid it like the plague. unless one of my friends recommend one, then I will check it out.

After My Immortal, I distance myself from practically all fanfics.
Obligatory Linkage [http://myimmortalrehost.webs.com/]

There are good versions though. Just more difficult to find.

Root's General Warning: What has been seen cannot be unseen.
Even more obligatory linkage [http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/the-sage/fanfic-theatre]. The Sage takes fanfics and reads them aloud with soft music in the background. What's there not to love?

His recent adventure? A four-part reading of My Immortal.

I used to write a couple of things on the old Black Library forums. Those guys are really good though. They've printed about 3+ books of anthologies of the work there. What kind of publishers publish their fans' fanfic?

I once wrote a play based on Terry Pratchett's "Color of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic".
Thankfully, I never actually posted it anywhere or showed to anyone beyond my closet circle of family and friends.

Even then, I'm still trying not to remember I had anything to do with it.
I do not think this is fanfic. I would probably put this in the category of adaptation. You were taking some thing from one medium and convert into another.

Anyway, I tried to read one fanfic about a woman name Mary Sue and it killed the concept for me.

I follow several fanfics, and I have thought of, but never actually gotten around to, writing fanfiction.

I've only read a couple of fanfics and I've never written one personally. One day I may write one, but only as personal practice and it would never purposefully see the light of day. Well, unless you count +1 Comics a fanfic, then I'm kinda screwed.

Haven't really read any, but I've been working on a piece of Tomb Raider fan fiction on and off for going on three years now. Maybe someday I'll post some of it on here.

EDIT: Believe it or not, it isn't self-insert fanfiction, erotic fanfiction or crossover fanfiction.
