What, no! Even if I had a small fortune as an extra in my wallet, there's just no way I'd put it into a videogame.

There are seriously so many better ways to spend that kind of money.

Even if money was no object, I wold be hesitant. 31 grand? You could buy my whole game setup for that much.

On the other hand, I am a completist for some things. Missing games like Suikoden 2 when I own the rest nags at me, so I have been known to break down on higher prices to finish off the set.

I said yes, but as with yesterday I have to clarify that it would have to be a game that was both so fantastic and so utterly replayable that I would probably play it for the rest of my life.

See Ikaruga. If that became rare enough and I had the money I would pay extreme sums for it.

I personally wouldn't. However when SFIV came out and you couldn't get fight controllers for love nor money my partner went out and secretly paid well over the odds for one. She knew I wanted one but was never going to buy it myself so she ordered it. She is a sweetie.

Not normally, no. I've got this thing called a wife & family that would disown me. Justifiably so.

But if money is no object, then why not? I'll also take a helicopter made of chocolate, please.
one helicopter made of chocolate, coming right up!

I had the same reaction as Coach.

Except I would have eaten half the rear cargo area before that spoilsport tank came along.

Wow, maybe depending on the game I suppose. You could just stab the person that owns the game of course... and take it!

Well, like the question was phrased. If money was not an issue, then the last option is irrelevant to me, it does not matter how stupid it may seem to spend $30K on a game if I have the money.

As to whether the game is rare enough would also be irrelevant. If money is not an issue I could either buy the game for its rarity or not. So I had to go with wanting the game enough to buy it. Wanting the game out of a whim, out of collector's value, out of stupidity it doesn't matter; what matters is that I want it and I have the cash.

Ah, to be in that position... although, if I had that kind of dough, I am sure I would have more important things to worry about than a $30K game.

Nope. I didn't even do it for Panzer Dragoon Saga...I'm not doing it for anything else, either.

If money was no object, then probably yes. Its my hobby anyway, finding rare games/consoles for the most reasonable price. For instance I just bought one of these for 180 pounds, complete with the box, manuals and all the inlays

A bit expensive perhaps, but its something to add to the ever growing collection.
Damn, I bought one of those at Toys R Us when I was eight but took it back several hours later because I spent all my money on it. I got a full refund but now I wish I hadn't done it.

The highest I would consider would be the $80 a local game retailer is charging for a copy of Super Mario RPG. But since I have the digital copy...probably not, no.

EDIT: Oh, and what game sold for 31k?

Continuing the theme of yesterday's question [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99981-Question-of-the-Day-April-15-2010], assuming money was no object, would you spend a small fortune (something along the lines of $31,000) for a game?

If it's Duke Nukem Forever and it's a good game, HELL YES!

Not THAT kind of money by any stretch! I can think of a lot of things I can do with $31,000 . . . upgrade my PC, pay off my college loans, go back to England for a few weeks . . .
