How is "keep religion separate from videogames" even feasible on any level? All other mediums can be used for it. Sure, it'd be nice to if the two didn't intersect, but there's no sane and responsible way to make that happen.

This question reminds me of the infamous "Versus" threads.

Can it be? Yes.
Should it be? Depends on a huge number of deciding factors.

Not a Yes/No question.

Free Speech says yes! If you want to make a video game to promote your religion, your company, your philosphy, your political leanings, your hatred of cheese, or whatever else you can think of, go ahead!
The same with films, books, and music, really.
Should you use other people's works in an attempt to promote the above, though? Again, sure, if that message of support is part of the original media. By which I mean giving out copies of MW2 to increase interest in whatever you're doing is wrong. Not that anyone's doing that.

I don't think the whole DDR thing involved specifically using DDR to promote religion though - I think the message he's giving is more along the lines of "Faith can empower you to do anything?"

I don't like the way the question is phrased though - it suggests a perceived separation between video games and other forms of media that many of us here would like to see reduced/removed.

Every other medium has already been used by Religion, why not videogames? They already have and the game was terrible, so it's not like you will be forced to play it. And your not going to see any major games focusing on a single religious group, as they will not want to offend anybody and possibly limit their buyers.

Yeah, if it tries to force Christianity or really any religion onto me I'd be kinda pissed off to say the least but I don't see why they can't use it to subtly promote their religion.

I'm not a fan of religion, and dislike the idea of video games being used to promote anything other than entertainment. So my personal feelings: No. My professional feelings: Why not, I can't stop them, it's their right afterall. So I'm a bit mixed feelings on this.

Oh wow a very interesting question that not only could change the video game culture, but almost all culture on Earth.

Most Video Games about real life Religions suck though, and fictional Religion's that dominate a particular video game's world are almost always evil or somehow corrupt.

I'm looking at you Yevon and New Yevon (FFX/X-2). First Sin, now Vegnagun. :\

I don't think videogames are the right tool for promoting God. Think about how many times someone has yelled out, "God damnit!"

I don't see any reason why not. Granted, a game that tried to sell me on religion is not one I would buy, but that's my choice to make as a gamer and a consumer. Of course, this also means that games which have an anti-religious stance should be given more freedom to criticize it directly as well. It's a two way street.

Where's the "No media should promote religion, choose for yourself and don't push it on me!" poll option?

Because I would choose that one.

I said no, but honestly I don't see religious games ever having much of a chance of converting anyone. They've all been pretty to extremely crappy because they prioritize message density over all other concerns.

Theres also the fact the practical message of religion (sit around, wait to die) doesn't exactly mesh with video games. It'd be like if cooking mama was obsessively overprotective and never let you do anything. The game wouldn't sell and kids would just associate cooking with boredom.

I think religion, belif, faith are personal things and should not be promoted in any way. I wouls even go as far and say that children should not be raised in the religion of the parents. When they are oldd enough, they will be able to choose for themselves.
