Shoud they? No. If these games are mainstream they may put off people from the game and i dont like having a christian lecture while im blowing up nameless minorities in afganiranistan .
Can they? Sure.

I'm of the belief that they shouldn't really be used to promote the specific beliefs of a religion. But that doesn't mean I'm entirely opposed to the idea that religious values should come through in a game. Putting aside any problems with organized religion or even faith and belief, it's hard to argue with some of the more positive morals put forth by religions. Do I think that religion should be used as a vehicle to promote some kind of "true path" through religion? No. But do I think that video games are an excellent vehicle to promote positive values in the youth of the developed world? God, yes.

I don't want religion being in my games especially organized religion.

It's not that I don't believe in a god or anything it's just I don't trust organized religion because I don't trust people in general.

Were would we see this in video games though? Is it a religious video game made for that purpose or are they gonna be subliminal in a Halo game?

considering many modern physics theories have been produced by religious followers i respectfully call bullshit sir...

O/T why the hell not? its just another form of media like tv or radio, do people seriously think that religion should be banned from these too? because otherwise its just plain hypocrisy. Its not like they're forcing you to buy the game....

Although I may not like the idea of religion being enforced via video games I don't actually see an issue simply because those who would choose to ignore religion - me included - would simply have to not purchase the game/s. Personally I don't like the thought of religion being advertised in this way but it would be hypocritical to outright say no as there are so many things that are advertised using this medium that it shouldn't really be denied this option. In all honesty I'm a little surprised that this sort of thing hasn't been tried already: religion, in the modern era of science and fact, has been more or less pushed to the side - certainly in the western world - and by advertising in this way it is making a concerted effort to reach a younger generation and thus tying to keep their firmly held beliefs alive. And although it's not something I would ever - barring some miracle - choose the believe in, it's not something I have massive issues with for the simple fact that those of us who don't want to have faith of that kind would simply not have to buy the game and could get on with playing the other hundred thousand games out there that don't promote religion.

The thing is that although, as far as I can tell, the majority of this forum (and almost everyone I know) isn't religious and it's not for atheists and agnostics to say you cannot promote your religion in "our" medium simply because we don't like it; there are a lot of people out there who do have faith and do choose to believe and so why shouldn't they have games that they can enjoy their religion with?

I would strongly disapprove of it, as I am very much opposed to religion. But hey, I'm a free-hands kind of a guy, so...they might as well. It's not like anything's going to stop them.

Video games should say whatever the makers want them to say. It isn't our place to tell artists what kind of messages they should espouse.

No. Religion is a personal matter. Gaming is entertainment and should be viewed as that. Different people with different beliefs or no belief, play games. To promote anything though games to me is just plain immoral. I am sure religious people would understand "immoral" and thus totally agree with me.

That would be fine, they can use anything they want to spread their ideas. I just don't want it forced on people.

After watching the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of bible games, I'm going to have to go with a big NO on this.

No, they shouldn't, but from what I've noticed those christians will do anything to convert people. I love it when they pull the "going against the crowd" or "we aren't doing the popular thing" shit when christianity is the most popular religion in the world...

No, video games shouldn't be used to promote religion. Think of the children! D:
You could consider this manipulation.

Then again, the times during which games were all about fun are long ago anyway.

So in my opinion they shouldn't, but nowadays they can anyway.

dammit ninjad!!!

anyway i feel that anything should be allowed into videogames. if what the creator puts in said game is unpopular, ppl wont buy and the creator will cease to exist in gaming. simple as that

My opinion is that religion should not be promoted by anyone in any way.

I see religion as an evil that we as a species must rid ourselves of.
