3.5, definitely. I haven't been able to play it nearly as much as I wanted to, but from the books and settings and how much I've spoken to my friends about it, it seems to be the ideal version of what's currently available.

I've always played 3.5. That's the version my DM preferred and I'm used to it. I'm more than a little surprised by the number of people who play 4.

The one thing is Dungeons and Discourse [http://dndis.wikidot.com/], but since I'm also part of the development team, that is kind of a given. But on the less traditional side of things, I've had my share of Shock: Social Science Fiction [http://glyphpress.com/shock/]. Also a bit of Paranoia over a forum, but that hardly counts.
Paranoia is one of my favorite RPGs to play! Just started up a new game.

Pathfinder all the way. 4th edition makes an interesting spin-off, but Pathfinder truely carrys on the spirit of D+D

No offense, but I'm pretty sure that the only reason people would pick 2end or earlier is rose tinted nostalgia glasses. It was great for its time, but these days, I break out my old books purely for the purpose of laughing.

I got my start with AD&D in the early/mid 80's and have been hooked on RPGs ever since. I've played every D&D edition except 3.0 and, while I think there have been some good things added by the various versions, I still have a soft spot for good old AD&D.

3.5 is my favourite as well. However, I found it a bit hard to grasp (mostly because no one knew how to actually play it, and we only had 1 of the 3 starter books). Been looking at Pathfinder myself. Does it do a better job at explaining things?
In a lot ways it does. The system itself is a bit smoother as well.

A couple friends and I decided we wanted to start playing a few years back. Then when we went and saw all of the books and sets to buy we realized how time/money consuming it would be and we gave up on the idea.

I enjoy 2nd, 3.5 and 4th. Each serve significantly different roles in storytelling (2nd and 3.5 do low fantasy real well while 4th does high fantasy really well). My favorite depends on which fantasy setting we're in.

Why is there a "I Don't Play D&D"-option in the poll? That's not relevant to the question at all...
yeah but LOOK AT THE FIGURES its the HIGHEST that has SOME significance
Still, majority of the people who answered the poll haven't played the game, hence "Which D&D edition you like the most" doesn't actually include these people. It's irrelevant, because the poll isn't mandatory for all users. Now the option is just sitting there for the trolls.

as mentioned earlier by others, Paizo's "Pathfinder" is awesome, but its not an actual d&d after all, so i voted 3.5 here.

I voted Other. Why? Well simply put because I love the changes that Paizo brought to it as Pathfinder, or as many love to call it, D&D 3.75.
Same. For all intents and purposes, it is exactly 3.5++

I took a look at the Advanced players manual. Instantly got a headache. It's no wonder D&D was for nerds when you needed a degree in astrophysics just to work out the damage a breath weapon does.

Never played D&D, if I knew someone who did play it and I had the chance to play it, I might've started playing it.

Pathfinder. Amazing redition of the D&D 3.5 ruleset by a group of intelligent, dedicated people and many, many, many hour of playtesting.

As far as "for-real" D&D, I prefer Second Edition.
